It’s time for the Kdrama Kisses 2022 Korean Drama Awards! Here we draw attention to some of my favorite performances and dramas in each genre this year. Aside from this, don’t forget to check out my big list of my favorite dramas of the year in my Best Korean Dramas of 2022 post. So let’s see what made my list of the best in 2022:
Best Actor:
Yoo Seung Ho (Moonshine)
I always enjoy Yoo Seung Ho, and his performance in Moonshine was no different. It was fun getting to see him in a more humorous, uptight role. His character had a good heart though, and it was nice seeing his growth. Yoo Seung Ho was a delight to watch in Moonshine.
Best Actress:
Jung So Min (Alchemy of Souls)
Jung So Min was fantastic in the role of Mu Deok in Alchemy of Souls. She delivers a moving performance that was both humorous and intense. She conveyed the many sides of her character by bringing each to life with attention to detail and beautiful execution. Jung So Min was truly amazing to watch in this drama.
Best Romantic Comedy:
Business Proposal
Business Proposal is an all-around fun romantic comedy. We get romance, humor, heart, and just a side of drama. It contains a fair amount of rom-com tropes, but it delivers them in a refreshing way and nails the overall execution. The drama flew by with the 12 episodes delivering excellent pacing. A fun drama all around.
Best Historical:
Alchemy of Souls
Alchemy of Souls has a little bit of everything with history, fantasy, action, romance, heart, and humor. It’s a world of magic, mages, and epic battles. I was always interested to find out what would happen next and was never bored. It has a huge cast of characters that were all fantastic including our main duo of Lee Jae Wook and Jung So Min. It was a fun and thrilling ride from start to finish!
Best Couple:
Yoo Seung Ho and Hyeri (Moonshine)
Yoo Seung Ho and Hyeri gave us an entertaining romance in Moonshine. They had a very fun bickering chemistry that then turns to a reluctant friendship and then eventually romance. It was a nice progression, and I enjoyed all of the stages of their relationship. We get to see this couple go many through highs and lows. The slow and steady build of their journey felt very rewarding.
Best Bromance:
Ahn Hyo Seop & Kim Min Kyu
(Business Proposal)
Business Proposal gave us a great bromance between Tae Moo and Da Goo who had been friends since they were young. I liked their fun interactions at work as well as outside of the office.
Best Girlmance:
Kim Se Jeong and Seol In Ah
(Business Proposal)
Long-time friends Ha Ri and Yeong Seo were a treat to watch in Business Proposal. They got into some hilarious situations, and their relationship was very entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed their fun and supportive friendship.
Best Villain:
Choi Won Young (Moonshine)
Choi Won Young gets Best Villain from me for his performance in Moonshine as Chief Royal Secretary Lee Shi Heum. He had a complicated past and grand plans for the future of Joseon which certainly caused trouble for many. Choi Won Young always nails roles like these, and this was a shining example of that.
Best Kiss:
Yoo Seung Ho and Hyeri – It’s Always You Kiss
(Moonshine)
Yoo Seung Ho and Hyeri had a very fun and interesting relationship in Moonshine. After enduring many troubles, our couple finally come together for this beautiful confession of feelings that ends in a meaningful kiss.
Best Costumes:
Alchemy of Souls
Best Costumes goes to Alchemy of Souls. They were beautiful. Since this is a fantasy in a fictional setting, the traditional Korean dress we usually see is embellished and added to which gives the drama a very unique flair. So many wonderful costumes to see!
Best Soundtrack:
Let Me Be Your Knight
Let Me Be Your Knight had a solid soundtrack. The band had several fantastic songs that were utilized very well throughout the series in addition to other nice songs on the OST. I greatly appreciate when a show about a band actually gives the band multiple good songs and uses them well.
It was definitely hard to choose favorites for some of these categories, but all of these left a great impression on me and deserve a place on the list.
