October was another good drama month. I got in the star-crossed romance historical My Dearest, the comedy heist The Apartment Job, and the Chinese historical Story of Yanxi Palace. Here’s how they went:
My Dearest

My Dearest is an incredibly well done drama on every level. It has outstanding production with gorgeous cinematography. The cast is phenomenal and deliver amazing performances. The story is complex and multifaceted with drama, tension, heart, romance, action, and so much more. It’s a tale of star-crossed lovers who are torn apart during war and other circumstances.
The show has a broad scope with a far-reaching storyline that spans years and across borders in the midst of war. We don’t see this kind of drama very often, and it was wonderful to watch this one which had such care that went into all the details. The OST enhances every aspect of the show too.
Overall, My Dearest was such a fantastic watch. This is definitely one of those dramas that leave an impression, and I’m glad I finally got to enjoy it. (My Dearest Review)
The Apartment Job

The Apartment Job was a fairly basic but mostly pleasant drama. It’s a caper-style story with Hae Kang and his group infiltrating an apartment complex in order to acquire some extra money. The vibe leans humorous with a lot of heart, but there is a slightly darker the side of the drama with a pretty crazy villain. That side also is played for comedy a lot of times, but it is still kind of dark.
The drama handled its 12 episodes well by having a fairly simple story and sticking to it. We mostly just have apartment shenanigans as our group grows closer combined with our villain causing problems. The show isn’t particularly gripping though it moves along at a fine pace. I never felt too invested in what was happening, but it was an okay enough watch. It makes for a good pallet cleanser between more serious dramas. (The Apartment Job Review)
Story of Yanxi Palace

Story of Yanxi Palace is a more soapy palace drama, and it was right up my alley! There is all kinds of scheming, betrayal, and over-dramatics. I had a fairly easy time getting to know the characters and get a lay of the palace. This meant that I could enjoy the show right off the bat.
Plus, the plot kicks in right away with plenty of stories to pull you in. The pacing for the drama is swift with constant plot developments. Just when one situation gets cleared up, another pops right up to take its place. This worked great for me and kept me constantly engaged.
Story of Yanxi Palace was so much fun all the way through. It was an epic tale on so many levels. So many stories were explored, and it was interesting watching our heroine, Wei Ying Luo, start at the bottom and slowly work her way up through the ranks of the palace. There were wonderful characters, amazing performances, and beautiful costumes and sets. I can’t believe I actually completed a 70 episode cdrama and was never bored! (Story of Yanxi Palace Review)
