Korean Drama Update for November 2023

For the month of November, I got in another two dramas!  It was the fantasy romance A Time Called You which was pretty fun overall and the rom-com Oh! Youngsim which I didn’t really have much to say about. Here’s how it went:

A Time Called You Korean Drama - Ahn Hyo Seop, Jeon Yeo Bin, Kang HoonA Time Called You

A Time Called You was an entertaining drama with a complex story and a grand romance. It was a bit messy and confusing in its presentation at times, but it still delivers a unique and engaging time travel romance that was good to watch.

Aside from the romance, there is also an interesting and complicated friendship to explore as well as in-depth character explorations. All of the actors were great and gave good performances. So, overall, I was happy with how A Time Called You turned out. It was a solid drama and very enjoyable. (A Time Called You Review)

Oh! Youngsim Korean Drama - Lee Dong Hae and Song Ha YoonOh! Youngsim

Oh! Youngsim was about as run-of-the-mill as they come. It has a pretty typical set-up with the childhood love story that went wrong due to misunderstandings followed by a reunion between the duo as adults. These misunderstandings continue in the present day as our couple gets involved in a dating show.

This drama for me is an example of a show using the basic romantic comedy formula and doing it in a completely average way. I felt pretty meh about both of the leads. The couple is so-s0,  and I wasn’t particularly invested in their relationship. The story is basic. The production is basic. Nothing stands out. It’s all pretty forgettable. It’s a lighter show that leans fun if you have nothing else to watch, and that’s about it. (Oh! Youngsim Review)

So how was November for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

    Korean drama update November 2023

    2 dramas finished
Twinkling Watermelon – a delightful coming of age time travel drama! One of the year’s best!

My Dearest – ambitious historical drama with outstanding acting. I think it tried to do too much

I’ve been hearing such good things about Twinkling Watermelon. I was undecided on it, but I think I will have to try it! I also want to watch My Dearest, though I will have to get myself prepared for all the angst and sadness, lol

I finished the same 2 as Snow Flower 🙂 Loved them both!

Twinkling Watermelon was so much better than I was expecting going into it with the first week’s episodes feeling fairly heavy but once he ventures to the past the real series began and was outstanding all the way. Ryeoun’s and Choi Hyun Wook’s incredible chemistry and the latter’s comedy and energy made the hours fly by. There was so much to love!

My Dearest was quite heavy and by the end felt a bit draggy. The writer kept ML/FL separate for too much of the later part of the drama and 2 bouts of a certain popular kdram trope at the end felt a bit much. All in all I’d still highly recommend because of the history, romance, acting, epic nature of the series, but it was not without it’s issues.

Those seem to be the popular ones for the month 🙂 I wasn’t sure about Twinkling Watermelon, but I’m definitely going to check out that one. I’m a sucker for time travel anyways, lol.

My Dearest looks right up my alley too, though with it being so heavy, I’ll have to be prepared for it, hehe.
