Lots of casting confirmations this week! The latest is for the upcoming tvN drama Bride of the Water God 2017 which has confirmed to be starring Nam Joo Hyuk (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo) and Shin Se Kyung (Six Flying Dragons). Nam Joo Hyuk will play the Water God with Shin Se Kyung as a neuropsychiatrist running her own office that is struggling to pay off the massive debt incurred by her father and school.

We also have our second leads confirmed. Krystal (She’s So Lovable) will play a goddess who has feelings for the Water God and Gong Myung (Drinking Solo) will play a wind god.

Yay! I’m thrilled with all of the castings, and I’m really excited to see this drama take shape. Here’s hoping it’s a good one!

Based off of the popular manhwa, Bride of the Water God was about a village suffering from drought that offers young women as sacrifices to a water god. One of the sacrifices eventually becomes his bride.

The drama version moves the setting into modern day Seoul while keeping the original characters from the story. The writer penned Misaeng and Arang and the Magistrate while the PD did Nine: Nine Time Travels and Queen In Hyun’s Man.

Bride of the Water God 2017 is looking to air in the second half of 2017 on tvN.

  2. Holy cow that writer-PD team up! This project really grabbed my attention early on (I read a lot of the manhua years ago) and then wow! I’m looking forward to it! And the cast looks great, I loved Shin Se-Kyung in Girl Who Sees Smells.

It is quite the team! I haven’t read the manhwa, but I’ve seen a lot of the gorgeous artwork from it. I was disappointed that they moved it to the modern day, but I’m still really excited for another modern fantasy drama.

I also love Shin Se Kyung, so I’m thrilled she will be starring in this. I think she will go well with Nam Joo Hyuk. Also really glad to see Gong Myung in another drama after really enjoying him in Entertainer and Drinking Solo 🙂

  3. Oh boy am I excited about this one!
