Remember Korean Drama - Yoo Seung Ho and Park Min Young Poster

Remember: War of the Son tells the story of an attorney named Seo Jin Woo (Yoo Seung Ho) who suffers from a condition called hyperthymesia which results in him having an autobiographical memory where he can remember everything in extreme detail.  When his father is falsely accused of a crime and sentenced to death, he sets out to clear his name with the help of his friend (Park Min Young).  But then Jin Woo’s excellent memory starts to fade, and it’s a race against time to prove his father’s innocence while he still can.

Remember: War of the Son ended up being just my kind of drama.  This is one of those times where I was excited about a drama from the moment Yoo Seung Ho and Park Min Young were cast.  Then they continued to add a slew of talented actors such as Park Sung Woong, Nam Gung Min, and Jun Kwang Ryul.  Everything just seemed to be coming together.

And the drama definitely lived up to my excitement!

Remember - Yoo Seung Ho 8 Remember - Yoo Seung Ho 10

Yoo Seung Ho is an emotional powerhouse who easily stirred up a range of feelings throughout the drama.  He can break your heart with his longing gaze.  He perfectly played the more innocent school boy at the beginning of the drama, but easily transitioned to a high powered lawyer for the rest of the drama.

His character, Jin Woo, had a mission, and he put his all into accomplishing it.  It seemed like the world was against him and money was what was needed to buy the “truth”, but he never let that stop him.  Along the way, he is able to learn that many times people’s motivations run deeper than he had ever realized.  Yoo Seung Ho brought all of the little nuances needed for a character such as this.  He was absolutely made for this role.

Remember - Park Min Young 4

Park Min Young does what she does best as an endearing, take charge woman who stands up for justice.  She does her best to fight for the truth and is willing to make sacrifices to help Jin Woo.  The bond she forms with him runs deep, and the situation with his father ends up altering the course of her life.

Remember - Yoo Seung Ho and Park Min Young 5 Remember - Yoo Seung Ho and Park Min Young 7

There’s not a lot of romance in Remember, but the little that was there was wonderful.  I knew Yoo Seung Ho and Park Min Young would be adorable together, and they really were.

I loved watching their relationship blossom slowly.  There was a lot going on around them, so dating really wasn’t something they had time to focus on.  But their relationship progressed in a lovely, natural sort of way that felt very comfortable.  Those little moments between these two added such a nice element to the drama.

Remember Korean Drama - Park Sung Woong

I really liked Park Sung Woong as the somewhat shady lawyer with a perfect track record.  He usually plays characters I find a bit boring, but this time he was quite lively, especially at the beginning of the drama.  I loved seeing this side of him.  But he also delivered a powerful performance as our conflicted lawyer who seemed to be constantly caught in the wrong situations.

Remember - Nam Gung Min 3 Remember - Nam Gung Min 5

And I’m already casting my vote for best villain for Nam Gung Min as Nam Gyu Man.  He didn’t hold back one bit in his portrayal of a violent murderer with severe anger issues.  This guy was truly crazy!  But Nam Gung Min really brought this character to life, and I found myself constantly in awe and disturbed when watching him.  This talented man deserves a standing ovation and so much more!

Remember - Jun Kwang Ryul 2

Then we have our sweet father played by Jun Kwang Ryul who is wrongly convicted of murder.  I mean how can you not love this guy?  He is so sweet and caring with a heart of gold.  It was devastating watching him struggle with Alzheimer’s while being sent to prison and treated unfairly.  But the relationship between him and his son was truly a joy to watch.

Remember - Yoo Seung Ho 14

Remember: War of the Son was such a solid drama.  With a wonderful plot acted by a cast of talented actors, it was easy to get lost in the story.  The characters had well developed relationships that were heartfelt and poignant.  Then entire production was also sleek and beautifully filmed.

Everything came together to present an intense, sweet, and heartbreaking story all at the same time.  This was exactly my kind of drama.  For me, it lived up to the hype and then some.  I highly recommend Remember: War of the Son.

My Rating: 10/10

What do you think about the ending? I like to believe that they ended up together, probably because of some medical advancement, I don’t think in-ah will leave him that easily. After all,she did promise him to stay by his side.

I too like to think they ended up together. It implied she was staying by his side whether he improved or not. We can’t be sure if they were able to truly be together, but I certainly hope they were in some form 🙂
