The Apartment Job is about a former gangster (Ji Sung) who runs for president of an apartment’s resident association in an effort to find hidden money, but he ends up becoming a sort of local hero after discovering corruption.

Ji Sung plays Park Hae Kang. He is a former gangster that needs to make a lot of money fast to help his boss, so he devises a plan to become the president of an apartment’s resident association so he can skim money.

Ha Yun Kyung is Kang Ha Ri. She has been trying to become a lawyer but is struggling with debt. She gets the opportunity to make some money by pretending to be Hae Kang’s wife at the apartment complex.

The Apartment Job was a fairly basic but mostly pleasant drama. It’s a caper-style story with Hae Kang and his group infiltrating an apartment complex in order to acquire some extra money. The vibe leans humorous with a lot of heart, but there is a slightly darker the side of the drama with a pretty crazy villain. That side also is played for comedy a lot of times, but it is still kind of dark.

The drama utilizes the concept of a found family as it progresses. We have Hae Kang and his men pretending to be a family including hiring Ha Ri to be his wife in order to get elected as the president of the apartment association. It starts off very transactional but develops into more of a family situation as everyone grows closer.
Hae Kang does have good motives for trying to get the money in order to help his boss, but he is willing to steal and lie in order to get it. But a big part of the drama also leans into him and his group finding themselves wanting to help the apartment complex and its residents along the way. We get to know some of the residents and see many of the issues that they face. It enhances this community sort of vibe.

The romance is more subtle, but we do have the fake relationship between Hae Kang and Ha Ri. They do grow closer throughout the drama as they get to know each other. It’s very slow burn, but we do get get some nice moments between them, particularly towards the end of the drama.

The Apartment Job handled its 12 episodes well by having a fairly simple story and sticking to it. We mostly just have apartment shenanigans as our group grows closer combined with our crazy villain causing problems. The show isn’t particularly gripping though it moves along at a fine pace. I never felt too invested in what was happening, but it was an okay enough watch. It makes for a good pallet cleanser between more serious dramas.
My Rating: 6.5/10
