Korean Drama Update for January 2025

I kicked off the new year with the hit drama Vincenzo in the month of January, and it was quite the ride! Here’s how it went:

Vincenzo

Vincenzo was a fun, thrilling, and emotional ride. It felt fresh in many ways and feels like a grand story of a charismatic anti-hero stepping up to take on the worst of the worst in a grand fashion with no holds barred. It tends to swing sharply between its humor and more serious elements, but it does it well. It delivered plenty of thrills along with humor and heart. The pacing is great throughout and easily kept me engaged.

Song Joong Ki was stellar in this role and delivers plenty of charisma and intensity. The rest of the cast also give wonderful performances all around and bring to life memorable characters in a rich world. So in the end, Vincenzo was fantastic and very satisfying. (Vincenzo Review)

So how was January for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

Three cramas finished in January: The Blossoming Love (the on I liked the best), Moonlight Mystique and Money is Coming (a kinda silly but fun minidrama).

Still no kdramas for January, but I’m actually watching 2 now; Love Scout and Trauma Code.

Busy month! Wishing you luck on the kdrama front. I have Love Scout on my maybe list and am waiting to get more feedback about it. Hopefully, you enjoy it 😊

    January finished 3, dropped 2.

    Finished:
When the Phone Rings – loved this from start to almost finish. The chemistry was amazing and story was interesting. There was the usual “went sideways” towards the end but having watched enough kdramas to know to expect writers to throw in unnecessary monkey wrenches. Thankfully there was enough of a happy ending to make it all worthwhile.

Police University – A few years old but recent enough. Very entertaining, not really a romance but a little of that was added to keep it interesting. Loved the cast and the camaraderie of the group along with the corruption mystery. Many times you can see the bad guy a mile away but this one constantly threw in red herrings making you think one thing then completely throwing you in another direction. Well done.

Trauma Code – Heroes on Call – Was not expecting to enjoy this but turned out to be a roller coaster ride. Joo Ji Hoon at his very best. Frenetic pace, unrealistic scenarios, just meant to be entertaining so leave your brain at the door. And if you’re squeamish, give this a hard pass because there’s A LOT of that!

    Dropped:
My Golden Life – an older day time type 50+ episode drama that I’d been meaning to watch. The cast was good so I had high hopes but about 10 ish episodes in I found myself struggling to watch just one episode a night so I gave up. Life’s too short for birth mysteries and people making selfish, foolish decisions based on money.

Who Is She – Dropped this one after about 4 episodes. Others might find it interesting but I couldn’t find anyone to root for. It’s a body switch drama – old halmoni switches bodies with a young pop idol. Halmoni was screwed out of stardom by her friend in the past and now, as the young pop idol, has a second chance to live her dream. Old woman in young body still behaves like an old woman. Young man/CEO of the music company is a potential love interest(?). The young pop idol who is now in the old body hasn’t had much contribution to the story yet. I assume there’s a lot more to this but just nothing for me to love so I might wait for it to end its run and see what the reviews are like before picking it up again.

Glad you were able to get in 3 dramas that you really enjoyed 😊 I’m just about to start When the Phone Rings as it looks right up my alley. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Too bad about My Golden Life and Who Is She. I have Who Is She on my maybe list and am still undecided. There’s just so many other dramas I’m more interested right now. I may still give it a go at some point though.
