Korean Drama Update for December 2024

To wrap up the year, I got in the rom-coms My Sweet Mobster and Bad Memory Eraser for December. Here’s how it went:

My Sweet Mobster

Sadly, My Sweet Mobster is one of those dramas that just didn’t really click with me. Overall, it’s a lighter romantic comedy that leans heavy on the humor with a side of action. It doesn’t do anything terrible, but there were a lot of things that didn’t work.

Most of the humor didn’t click, and the gang-related back story was mediocre. The pacing felt slow all the way through with the drama being way too long. The drama does improve by the latter third which was definitely nice, but it was too little, too late and not really enough to save the series for me. (My Sweet Mobster Review)

Bad Memory Eraser

Bad Memory Eraser Korean Drama - Jaejoong and Jin Se Yeon

Bad Memory Eraser was a solid drama. It was a slow burn for me and took a bit of time to get going and find its groove, but once things got rolling, it got better and better. It’s definitely not a drama to take too seriously, but I liked its exploration of trauma and the individual character journeys.

I thought the overall story progressed nicely with good pacing, and the characters were engaging. The emotional moments were touching, and the soundtrack was utilized well. There was a lot of humor that blended well with the more serious elements. So in the end, it made for a fun watch that I enjoyed. (Bad Memory Eraser Review)

So how was December for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

Finished 4 and dropped 1 in December:

Brewing Love – a bit meh but cute rom-com with interesting enough plot to follow. Too much time on the beer business side of things so it felt like an office romance in that way. Good cast, no real bad guys to speak of, not a lot of angst.

The Trunk – only watched because of the online buzz. Not really my thing. Short enough so was able to finish. A bit dark. More psychological thriller than romance.

Love Your Enemy – the backstory and young versions of the main couple made this much better than it would have been if it was just the older main couple. Although good actors, just not any chemistry that I could detect. Wish the young actors would get their own drama series as their story was excellent.

Love is for Suckers – this is a few years old and I had dropped it after a couple of episodes back then but saw it had decent ratings on Viki so decided to give it another go. Not really great but ok to fill the time.

Namib – dropped. I didn’t care for the story halfway through episode 1. If I hear awesome things about it I might eventually try it again as I like the ML but doubt it.

Currently watching – When the Phone Rings (my current fave), Rented in Finland (only my 2nd variety show ever and very funny), Who Is She (meh so far), Check in Hanyang (early days but enjoying so far), My Golden Life (an ok older 50-episode soap to keep me busy as I wait for other shows to air week to week).

Looks like you had an okay month with the 4 you finished. I’m still considering Brewing Love and Namib.

From your currently watching, When the Phone Rings and Check in Hanyang are on my list as both look quite interesting. Hopefully, they continue to go well for you 🙂

I dropped Namib cuz the story didn’t interest me. I just finished when the phone rings and LOVED it. Check in hanyang is enjoyable so far 5 episodes in.

Yay that When the Phone Rings was so good and Check in Hanyang is still going well! Hoping they go good for me too!
