Korean Drama Update for January 2024

I started off the new year with a great drama in the form of the makjang Perfect Marriage Revenge.  It was quite the watch! Here’s how January went:

Perfect Marriage Revenge Korean Drama - Sung Hoon and Jung Yoo MinPerfect Marriage Revenge

Now that was a fun ride! Perfect Marriage Revenge is the definition of a soapy makjang in the best kind of way. Everything in this drama is over-the-top. It is filled with tropes galore, but it is executed perfectly to keep things exciting. The drama embraces what it is and rolls with it. While the story is serious, it never feels too heavy. It’s a lot of fun dramatics peppered with some comedy and romance.

In many ways, this feels like an old-school makjang, but it has a bit of modern feel which sort of freshens things up. I love this genre, so I had such a wonderful time getting to go on a cracky, fast-paced ride that only a classic makang can deliver.

I hadn’t watched a good makjang in a while, so I was super happy with Perfect Marriage Revenge. It did everything it needed to do to make for a chaotic tale of soapy goodness with betrayal, revenge, dramatics, romance, and a side of humor. I had a great time with this one! (Perfect Marriage Revenge Review)

So how was January for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

    Drama update January 2024

I finished Like Flowers In Sand – pure comfort food of a drama in the best sense of the word. Jang Dong Yoon is simply endearing!

I added that one to my list after you mentioned how much you were enjoying that one 🙂

My January drama was Meet Yourself, a lovely unasuming slice-of-life cdrama. It was just the perfect counterbalance for stressful workdays, I always felt better after a good dose of “feel good”. 🙂

That does sound like a nice stress reliever after a hard work day. I always love a nice feel good drama 🙂

Got in 4 dramas in January:

The Story Of Park’s Contract Marriage – simple plot and with only 12 episodes, easily watchable. I think they could have done more with this, especially with the caliber of actors involved but there just wasn’t enough story to tell. 5/10

Good Day to be a Dog – Cute, enjoyable 1st half but the 2nd half went sideways with a story line that didn’t seem to fit the tone. The premise was already silly to begin with but to then go in such a weird direction on top of the barely 1 episode a week airing schedule, this drama was a huge disappointment. Still glad I watched but would have been better to have waited to binge. 6/10

Welcome to Sam Dal Ri – I had high hopes for this one and although it started out a bit iffy, I think it found it’s footing and I’ll rank it as my favorite JCW drama since he returned from the military. Kim Mi Kyung really brought it in the later episodes and gave the show a huge boost overall. 8/10

My Demon – My favorite watch for the month. Everything I like in my romantic comedy. Song Kang roles tends to be hit or miss for me but he was perfect in this and he had wonderful chemistry with Kim Yoo Jung. Strong villains and a decent story kept it moving til the end. 10/10.

Looks like a mixed month. I’m glad you enjoyed Welcome to Sam Dalri and My Demon. Both are on my list. I may still check out A Good Day to Be a Dog.

I’m currently watching The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract. And I’m kind of feeling like you. I do like it, and it’s easy to watch, but it’s a bit meh. We’ll see how it goes.
