The Heavenly Idol Korean Drama - Kim Min Kyu and Go Bo Gyeol

The month of August brought me the fantasy romantic comedy The Heavenly Idol which was a really good time.  Here’s how it went:

The Heavenly Idol Korean Drama - Kim Min Kyu, Choi Jae Hyun, Shin Myung Sun, Laon, Hong Seung BumThe Heavenly Idol

I was honestly surprised by just how much I enjoyed The Heavenly Idol. It has a fun premise with a High Priest being transported to another world and inhabiting the body of a failing idol. Then we get to watch him awkwardly navigate his new world. The fish out of water trope is a favorite of mine, so I was there for it.

Most of the drama is on the lighter side with a lot of cheesy comedy and fun hijinks, but there is a serious story running in the background. It was a bit uneven tonally at times, but for the most part it came together nicely.

So overall, I was very happy with The Heavenly Idol. It gave me plenty of lighthearted laughs and interesting characters. Then it created an in depth back story that really packed a punch in the end be delivering plenty of emotion and suspense. I definitely had a great time with this drama. (The Heavenly Idol Review)

So how was August for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

That’s a fun list you’ve got going. I still need to watch the classic Jumong at some point. My Dearest looks really good but very sad. Hope you enjoy them!

Hi Kay – sounds like a good with Heavenly Idol for you. I finished one this month as well – ‘King the Land’. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either. It was a nice light watch with lots of prettiness. And it ended well.

Haha, well, I guess lots of prettiness always helps 😂 I’ve heard mostly good things about it, and it does sound light and fun. So I’ll probably give it a go soon 🙂

    Finished 4 in August:

King the Land – LOVED! Just the right level of cute and light fluff I’m looking for to escape in. Added to my re-watch list.

The Great Show – watched for my Song Seung Heon kick but over it now. The series had potential with the family dynamics but got bogged down in the petty politcs. Disappointing.

Autumn in my Heart – so unbelievably depressing! I ended up watching about 5 episodes then reading a synopsis of the rest of the story and watching the finale. I can’t take that much gut wrenching drama 🙁

5-9 J-Drama. Once you get past the change in pace from K to J drama it was actually a fairly sweet and simple story. I enjoyed it overall.

Currently watching Homemade love story (one of those long soapy family dramas I like). Not bad, really stellar cast, and decent story.

Also watching My Lovely Liar which is excellent. A bit slow but not draggy. 6 episodes in, enjoying so far.

I excited to check out King the Land! Soon 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I have Autumn in My Heart on my watch list, but it’s one that I have constantly put off because I’ve heard how depressing it is. I have several classics sitting on my list for that reason, lol.

I’ve heard good things about 5-9 and may check it out someday. I would also like to see Homemade Love Story, but the length is definitely a deterrent on that one.

My Lovely Liar looks fun, and I have it on my list. I hope you enjoy it 🙂
