Lovestruck in the City Korean Drama - Ji Chang Wook and Kim Ji Won

It’s two more dramas down for April, and they were night and day different from each other!  It was the romance Lovestruck in the City and the old school classic melo What Happened in Bali that I got in for the for the month:

Lovestruck in the City Korean Drama - Ji Chan Wook and Kim Ji WonLovestruck in the City

Lovestruck in the City was a bit of mixed bag for me. It had some elements that I really loved and some that I didn’t care for it. I loved the main romance which was very engaging. Ji Chang Wook and Kim Ji Won were both great in their roles.

I didn’t particularly like the documentary/interview format that some of the show was done in and greatly favored the more traditional storytelling. I wasn’t too interested in the side couples either.

Overall, Lovestruck in the City was a quick and easy watch though. Swoony moments, great chemistry between our leads, and an interesting story made it enjoyable. (Lovestruck in the City Review)

What Happened in Bali

The 2004 classic What Happened in Bali gives us old-school melo antics galore! It nails the atmosphere with the way it’s shot, the clothes, and those longing stares set to a handful of amazing songs that are played repeatedly each episode. I loved it!

This is a darker drama with mature themes. Of course, it has plenty tropes and cliches of the time, but it executes them in such an enticing way. The romance, if you want to call it that, is complicated and messy with four miserable people who make each other more miserable. Youthful versions of actors like Jo In Sung, Ha Ji Won, So Ji Sub, and Park Ye Jin were great in there roles. Jo In Sung puts forth a particularly impressive and memorable performance.

What Happened in Bali was a crazy and chaotic ride that was filled with greed, tears, and misery. Emotions run high as these four people bring pain and heartache to each other. I loved the old school melo feel, and it completely delivered everything I love about this genre. It’s not a drama for everyone, but for those who like this style, What Happened in Bali is a fantastic drama. (What Happened in Bali Review)

Happy drama watching to everyone!

I took a break from dramaland this month. The only drama- related thing I did was rewatch 2 episodes of Money Flower every week.

Well, Money Flower should be more than enough to tide any drama fan over. Jang Hyuk ❤❤❤
