Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung Korean Drama - ASTRO's Cha Eun Woo and Shin Se Kyung

We have Shin Se Kyung (Black Knight) now confirmed to star in the new Korean historical drama Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung where she will play a record keeper. ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo (My ID is Gangnam Beauty) is still considering an offer to star as a prince. I’m thrilled that Shin Se Kyung has signed on and will really be looking forward to her new drama!

Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung is about 19th century women who faced prejudice for being writers of historical records. One historian (Shin Se Kyung) works to establish her place and meets a lonely prince who lives a double life as a romance novelist.

Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung is planning to air in the summer on MBC.

I hate to sound unsupportive of Cha Eun Woo, but I really don’t want to see him in a saguek. He might be okay in it…but idk, I feel like you have to be on a whole other level to be really good in a saguek. But maybe it will be more comedy like Sangkwankang Scandal? He could definitely pull that off. but maybe I am just underestimating him…

  I think it’s normal to wonder how any actor will do when transitioning to a sageuk, and even more so a newer one. You’re right, sageuks are on another level in the terms of the type of performance they usually require. That’s why only a few people truly shine in them.
  
  But yes, all we can do it see what comes of it. I think he has talent, and hopefully being around actors like Shin Se Kyung who has a lot of experience in sageuks and other veteran actors will help him if he accepts. I’m definitely rooting for everyone involved 🙂

    I’m definitely rooting for him! I just worry that the opposite will happen. That being with experienced actors like shin se kyung will make him seem less talented. :/

      I could see how that could happen too, hehe. Or maybe a little of both. I remember in Scarlet Heart, Baekhyun was quite green, especially in the beginning. But Lee Joon Gi worked with him a lot, and I really think he improved by the end of the drama. So maybe Cha Eun Woo could have a similar experience. Of course, it’s a little different since this is a lead role. But in the worse case scenario, maybe he’ll decide early in his acting career that he’d rather stick to modern dramas, lol.
