Time Korean Drama - Kim Jung Hyun

It seems that the star of the MBC melodrama Time, Kim Jung Hyun, has had to step down from his role. He has apparently been suffering from psychological and physical health issues and needs time to recover. The drama’s production team announced that he will not be recast and the script will instead be edited to accommodate his early exit.

This is definitely a pretty big casting shake up considering the drama is just halfway through its run. Based on the plot description concerning Kim Jung Hyun’s character, I’m guessing they will just have to move some things up though. Of course, the overall story will still be impacted. But I really hope he gets the rest he needs to make a full recovery.

Time is about a man (Kim Jung Hyun) facing death who decides to live his final days helping a woman (Seohyun) whose life he ruined. The drama comes from the writer of Mask and Secret and the PD of Hotel King.

Wow, this sounds pretty intense. I hope he will be okay. It really is a bad thing to happen to a series. 😢

Yeah, it’s one of those bad situations all around. Bad for the drama, bad for Kim Jung Hyun. It sounds like he will need a good amount of time to really focus on recovering. Hoping it goes as well as possible.

Thanks Kay. Kim Jung Hyun was the main reason I watched this drama – I didn’t care for the lead actress nor the antagonist. I love this writer’s work but allowing this character to go will certainly cripple the plot. I had been hoping somehow a miracle would happen and he wouldn’t die, I guess that notion it out the window. I have great sympathy for the actor, it must be very serious for him to quit though. I feel even worse for this writer because he had another show that got held up for some reason. Kdrama addiction is a real thing, there is a part of me that wonders how I came to this.

Yeah, I was interested to see Kim Jung Hyun in such a serious role, and I really enjoyed this writer’s drama Secret. I was planning to watch it later, but now I wonder how much the plot will be effected. I figured his character would likely die at the end, but having to move that up so many episodes will greatly alter the story. I guess they will have to shift to the lead actress. I really hope Kim Jung Hyun gets the rest he needs. It sounds like he will need a lot.

I know what you mean about the kdrama addiction! I’m most definitely addicted. But I’m pretty happy in my addiction, lol 😉

I wasn’t watching “Time”, but wasn’t he in the Go-Go Waikiki drama a few months back? He was the best part of that drama, and I was really impressed with him. I’d rather he take time out now, rest and get help than hear about some tragic outcome later one. Dramas come and go….health is precious. Perhaps his example will start to put the brakes on how hard these productions work the actors/staff.

Yes, he was in Waikiki, and he was wonderful in it! Although it’s of course disappointing for the drama and others involved, I too am glad that he didn’t continue to push himself and went ahead and took the time he needs. I can imagine what a difficult decision it was for him, but now he can go ahead and get help and just focus on recovery. You’re right, we definitely don’t need another tragedy, and we can hope that these productions will start to make changes.
