Hwayugi Korean Drama - Lee Seung Gi

It’s finally happened! Lee Seung Gi has finally been confirmed to be starring the new Hong sisters drama Hwayugi. Fresh from being discharged from the military, this will mark his much anticipated comeback project. He is set to play the trouble maker Monkey King who is exiled to the human world without his powers because of his corruption where he seeks to restore them.

The rest of the cast confirmations had been trickling in for a while now and include Oh Yeon Seo (My Sassy Girl) as a wealthy realtor who battles spirits and Cha Seung Won (Hawjung) as a successful CEO of an entertainment agency and the hero’s rival. Plus a slew of others like Lee Hong Ki, Lee El, Lee Se Young, and Bora.

It had looked like he was likely to take the role as no other actors had been mentioned for the part, and he was probably waiting to be discharged before confirming. And now he has, and I couldn’t be more excited to be seeing him on my screen so soon. It’s been 3 years since his last drama You’re All Surrounded, so he is long overdue. And a rom com horror sounds like a wonderful and fun drama to welcome him back. Lee Seung Gi!!!

Hwayugi is a romantic comedy horror loosely based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West about the journey of a monk and four others to atone for their sins. The drama moves the story to the modern day where the trouble making Monkey King (Lee Seung Gi) is exiled to the human world without his powers because of his corruption. He seeks to restore them with the help of a wealthy realtor (Oh Yeon Seo) descended from monks who can unseal them. The two then work to battle evil spirits together.

Hwayugi is looking to air in December on tvN.

But I also liked Oh Yeon Seo in Shine or Go Crazy. So I am excited for this. And it is showing soon. This is amazing!!!

Agree! I think the only thing that could have made this drama better is if Shin Min Ah was also involved. But I too really like Oh Yeon Seo, so I’m excited to have her as a lead with the amazing Lee Seung Gi. And the rest of the cast is just amazing too! And yes, December premiere! So we don’t have to wait to long. The excitement is so high!!
