Well, now you officially have my attention! Lee Seung Gi!!!! Lee Seung Gi (You’re All Surrounded) has been offered a starring role in the latest drama coming from the popular writer duo the Hong sisters called Hwayugi.
Hwayugi is a romantic comedy horror loosely based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West about the journey of a monk and four others to atone for their sins. The drama moves the story to the modern day where Lee Seung Gi would play the character based off of the trouble making Monkey King who was exiled to the human world without his powers because of his corruption. He seeks to restore them with the help of a materialistic monk (who will be our leading lady) who can unseal them.
This was the role that was previously offered to Park Bo Gum, but he ultimately turned it down. An offer is still out to Cha Seung Won (The Greatest Love) to co-star.
Well, I’ve been anxiously awaiting a drama from Lee Seung Gi for ages!. He currently has two months left of his military service before he is discharged. And I had actually been low key fantasizing about him doing this drama when he got out. So count me as surprised to see he has actually been offered the role!
This would also be a reunion for him and the Hong Sisters from My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. Lee Seung Gi and Cha Seung Won also starred together in the drama You’re All Surrounded. So I’m very much hoping he accepts this role so we can see him at the end of the year!
Hwayugi is looking to air in December on tvN.
