Bride of the Water God Korean Drama - Nam Joo Hyuk and Shin Se Kyung

We have our first look at the upcoming tvN drama Bride of the Water God 2017 starring Nam Joo Hyuk (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo) and Shin Se Kyung (Six Flying Dragons) with the release of its first teaser trailer.

It’s a short one that is narrated by Shin Se Kyung as we are introduced to the drama, and we get a lovely encounter between her and Nam Joo Hyuk on a beautiful evening as they are showered in flower petals that are raining down from the trees. Hopefully, this is just the start of the sweet romance to come!

Bride of the Water God Korean Drama - Nam Joo Hyuk and Shin Se Kyung

Bride of the Water God 2017 is loosely based off of the popular manhwa about a village suffering from drought that offers young women as sacrifices to a water god. One of the sacrifices eventually becomes his bride.

The drama version moves the setting into modern day Seoul with Nam Joo Hyuk as the Water God and Shin Se Kyung as a neuropsychiatrist running her own office that is struggling to pay off the massive debt incurred by her father and school. The writer penned Misaeng and Arang and the Magistrate while the PD did Nine: Nine Time Travels and Queen In Hyun’s Man.

Bride of the Water is scheduled to premiere in July on tvN.

I like how they made this very short trailer. Nicely done with the drawing changing into the real thing. This could be an interesting series to watch, especially the premise for it is pretty original 😊

I too thought it was neat that they used the original artwork to open and then transition into the drama. If anything, I think the drama will look very nice. But I’m also very interested to see how they adapt this story to the modern day 🙂
