Goblin: The Lonely and Great God Korean Drama - Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, and Lee Dong Wook

Kim Eun Sook, the writer of the huge hits Goblin and Descendants of the Sun, is bringing us a new drama called Mr. Sunshine. Mr. Sunshine is set around 1900 and follows the romance of a soldier of the righteous army and a nobleman’s daughter. It follows the story of the soldier who got on a U.S. military expedition as a child and grew up in America. As an adult, he then returns to Korea as a soldier.

Well, I’m excited for this drama on so many levels. First, this time period is incredibly unique for kdramas. Most dramas are set during the Japanese occupation that immediately followed this time period. So apparently, they will be building all new sets for the drama.

Second, I’m a fan of this writer. I enjoy her romances, and her last two outings have been lavish affairs that garnered worldwide attention and popularity. And with the unique setting for Mr. Sunshine, it sounds like a perfect backdrop for another epic and visually stunning romance drama.

No actors have been attached to the project yet. Of course, I’m already fantasy casting though. I may be a bit biased, but I think Lee Joon Gi sounds perfect for this role. He does amazing in period pieces, and I think he would fit so well in this sort of transitional period. And of course, he would bring so much acting talent to the table. A sprawling period romance just sounds perfect for him.

But I won’t be getting my hopes up, as there are plenty of other actors to be considered, and we know many of them will be wanting a role like this. I’m definitely excited for the drama though!

Mr. Sunshine is looking to air in 2018.

Ooh…this is exciting news indeed. I could not agree more about really enjoying everything this writer has so far been doing. Goblin was of ourse amazing, and a series set in the 1900’s does sound very unique indeed. I also love that timeperiod, and as there are not many dramas/movies that feature this period, I am always excited when one appears that focusses on this.
Off-topic…I think I am going to drop Faith. Having seen two episodes it really doesn’t do much for me. I did start with Bad Guys today, and wow I am really liking this. Dark atmosphere, some great humor, but also terrific acting. Loving this so far ! 😊

Yes it is 🙂 I’m sure it will be a another grand affair with lots of publicity. The same director as Goblin and DOTS is also on board, so I know it will be a gorgeous drama to look at. Can’t wait to start the casting!

So you’re going to drop Faith, lol. Two episodes is how far I went before I dropped it the first time. But as I mentioned, at least it intrigued me enough to check out more dramas. I picked Faith back up two more times over the last few years and watched two episodes each time. It had its moments, but it hadn’t really picked up anymore as of episode 6. Still, I will one day finish it! lol Hopefully, a historical like Scarlet Heart becomes available for you soon, since it is truly good 🙂

As for Bad Guys, I really thought it would be right up your alley 🙂 And yes, it’s dark, has amazing acting, and is intense all the way through. Hope you enjoy it!
