Saimdang Light's Diary Herstory Korean Drama - Lee Young Ae

It looks like the SBS drama Saimdang Light’s Diary starring Lee Young Ae and Song Seung Heon has had its number of episodes cut down from 30 to 28. Fairly early on in it’s run, additional edits were made and the pacing of the drama was accelerated. This could be a contributing factor if that resulted in a lack of footage towards the end.

The drama has brought in decent ratings, but they have fallen week to week throughout its run. Which is overall a disappointment since it was the highly anticipated comeback drama for Lee Young Ae. So as of now, Saimdang Light’s Diary is scheduled to conclude on May 4.

Saimdang Light’s Diary is about an art history lecturer (Lee Young Ae) who finds the diary of the famous historical figure Shim Saimdang and works to discover the secret behind a mysterious portrait.

Saimdang Light’s Diary airs Wednesday and Thursday on SBS.

I looked forward with great anticipation to this pre- filmed drama. Two great leads and a fascinating story. It held my interest for several episodes. However I found my attention wandering and so stopped watching a few episodes ago. The story could have been better edited along the way. After watching so many really good saguks, this one not so good. Just my opinion, what did you’all think?

I know a lot of people were really looking forward to this drama too. After hearing a lot of the feedback about it, I haven’t given it a try. It’s too bad it wasn’t able to really pull things together 🙁

Hmm, that really is disappointing. Ever since I first heard about this one, I was looking forward to it a lot, especially since the premise for it sounded quite unique. Too bad that it has not lived up to expectations.

Yeah, very disappointing when such a highly anticipated drama doesn’t fair so well. It definitely has fans, but it sounds like it’s pretty average. Really too bad.

It sure isn’t because they didnt have enough footage. A good portion of the early episode could have been slimmed down. In the entire show, they needed to have more scenes with SSH and LYA interacting and less time on tangents that weren’t moving the story forward. A greater lever of a depiction of romance and reciprocated feelings between these two as adult was needed. For example, hugs and a kiss or two or threw. Its a DRAMA, not a documentary. God only knows what they are doing with the present day story line. It should have been abandoned or brought SSH into it ASAP. We still haven’t seen him in the present day and we are on ep 24!

It seems like there was quite a few problems with the drama all around. Rather than not enough footage it sounds like they needed different footage. Definitely disappointing 🙁
