Oh Hae Young Again Korean Drama - Eric Mun and Seo Hyun Jin

July was a pretty great drama month for me.  I absolutely loved one drama and really enjoyed three others. It was all new dramas this month as I completed a total of four dramas in July:

Beast's Beauty Korean Drama - Nam Goong Min and MinahBeautiful Gong Shim

Well, talk about being surprised that Beautiful Gong Shim was absolutely wonderful! I think I underestimated just how much fun this drama would be. I had such a good time, and I laughed so much! I was completely in love with Beautiful Gong Shim.

It had everything I like in drama with all the crazy scenarios, lovable characters, and then the tension rose as they all had to deal with some difficult truths. I was so invested in everyone and just wanted them to be able to get back to a place of happiness. Drama perfection on so many levels. I sure do love this writer! I’m certainly going to miss all of these wonderful people as well as the drama and smiles they all had to share with me. (Beautiful Gong Shim Review)

Oh Hae Young Again Korean Drama - Eric Mun and Seo Hyun JinOh Hae Young Again

Oh Hae Young Again was a bit unusual for me in that I was all over the place in my feelings for it. I was never in love with either of the main characters and many times I was actually really annoyed by them. But the main thing Oh Hae Young Again has going for it is a unique story.  I haven’t really seen anything quite like it, so that is a plus.

All in all, Oh Hae Young Again was a really solid drama. Despite a somewhat slow opening and closing and a main couple that sometimes annoyed me, I found the story itself very fresh, well-written, and thought-provoking. Oh Hae Young Again was certainly a fun drama on many levels. (Oh Hae Young Again Review)

Lucky Romance Korean Drama - Hwang Jung Eum, Ryu Jun Yeol, Lee Chung Ah, and Lee Soo HyukLucky Romance

Lucky Romance was a cute watch that I really enjoyed. I loved the crazy opposites attract scenario. Hwang Jung Eum was perfect as our cheerful and superstitious heroine, and Ryu Jun Yeol was great as the sort of dorky and socially awkward male lead. I also really enjoyed our second leads of Lee Soo Hyuk and Lee Chung Ah.

I didn’t find our couple particularly swoon-worthy, but they were a lot of fun and made for a nice, easy watch. There are some lovely heartwarming moments with a nice dose of comedy. The drama really looked at how our beliefs can really shape our lives and took us on a journey of growth and self-discovery that I found very moving. (Lucky Romance Review)

Mirror of the Witch Korean Drama - Yoon Shi Yoon and Kim Sae RonMirror of the Witch

Mirror of the Witch is a like a dark fairy tale that I found to be different from many other kdramas I have seen.  While there are moments of humor throughout, the overall feel is dark and moody.

The main negative I had was that it felt pretty slow overall and got quite draggy in the latter third. Many times it just lacked an intensity that I felt should be there.  But Mirror of the Witch sets up a very interesting and solid mythology that runs throughout the entire drama, and I really enjoyed the many fantasy elements.  All of the supporting cast also really brought their individual characters to life with solid performances.

And of course, Yoon Shi Yoon and Kim Sae Ron nailed their roles and both gave moving performances. Their love story was also sweet and beautiful like a fairy tale.  These things all made Mirror of the Witch a mostly enjoyable watch. (Mirror of the Witch Review)

So July was another wonderful drama month for me. Beautiful Gong Shim joins the ranks of some of my favorite dramas. Lucky Romance, Oh Hae Young Again, and Mirror of the Witch each brought something fun to the table to make the month really enjoyable.

For the month of August, I hope to complete Beautiful Mind, Good Morning Call (jdrama), and a couple others.

So how was July for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

Hi there, I’m a first time reader of Kdramakisses but it will not be my last. I really like reading your recaps!I completely agree with you on all four dramas.

Beast’s Beauty was my favorite drama in June. I’m currently stuck on epsiode 13 of AOHY. I was never a fan of Eric Moon to begin with though and I’m still not. Lucky Romance was your run of the mill rom com filled with extra cliche scenes, but it was cute nonetheless. I am on episode 6 of Mirror of the Witch and I definitely agree with you it is really slow. I can’t get over the age difference one and two I have yet to finish a drama with Yoon Shi Yoon.

W: Two Worlds is my life right now. I’ve seen the first 4 episodes 7 times now. The plot itself is on fire and I have know idea where it will lead to next, but I am so excited to find out. I read an article that said the director said “if you think episode 3 and 4 were were thrilling, wait until you watch episodes 7 and 8!” So now I am pumped! I really wish this drama gets extended 4 more episodes!

I’m also currently watching Let’s Fight, Ghost, Doctors, Prince of Wolf, and Ice Fantasy. Taecyeon cannot act. So Let’s Fight, Ghost has been a bit difficult to watch but I will say the comedic duo are hilarious and really the main reason I watch it. I’m not really seeing a big enough plot in Doctors, I was on episode 3 for the longest time but decided last night to give it another go. I am all caught up with it but I did skip several boring scenes and fell asleep on multiple occasions. I don’t understand why they show the two female leads buying makeup so often. It really doesnt fit into the story. Prince of Wolf isn’t as great as Bromance (My All Time Favorite Taiwanese Drama) but its cute. Ice Fantasy is like Asian Heat and Cold Miser Brothers. I absolutely love it…though I will say it did take me a long time to get over those very fake ears. Seriously, why couldn’t they blend it the same color as skin? I know the acting is over dramatic and the voices are recorded over but that seems to be a trend with Chinese dramas. All in all, Down with Love (Jerry Yan-Mainland China) and Bromance (Taiwanese) are my two favorite Chinese dramas.

After W: Two Worlds, I need more Lee Jong Suk in my life. I might give Doctor Strangers a try. Have you heard of it? Watched it? Was it any good?

I recently finished Beast’s Beauty, Lucky Romance, Monstar, Ouran Host Club both Anime and Live Action TV Series, Vampire Knight Seasons 1 and 2 Anime, and Love in Time (Hong Kong). I really enjoyed all of these. My least favorite from this list being Lucky Romance.

I’m glad you found your way here. Nice to meet you! I loved Beast’s Beauty sooo much! Definitely one of my favorite dramas so far this year 🙂

I think Mirror of the Witch stayed on the slow side throughout. I still liked it, but it just depends how much you like the mythology and story as to whether you will want to keep on since it is slower.

Ah, someone else watching Prince of Wolf! I’m watching that too and haven’t came across anyone else watching it. It’s soooo cheesy, but it’s cute and I’m liking it so far. I’m planning to check out Ice Fantasy. I don’t really like the dubbing in Chinese dramas either, but if the show is good, then I can put up with it.

I’m watching Beautiful Mind right now. Also watching the Chinese drama Chronicle of Life and the Japanese drama Good Morning Call.

I can’t wait to start W – Two Worlds! I’m waiting for more episodes to air before I start it. But from what I’ve heard it is amazing! So I totally see why it’s your go to drama right now.

I haven’t seen Doctor Stranger because most people seem to think it’s pretty terrible. I heard the first 2-3 episodes are really good, and then everything gets bad. I’ll probably still check it out at some point though. Have you seen Pinocchio and I Hear Your Voice? Lee Jong Suk is great in both of those, and I would definitely recommend them 🙂

Hi! I finished Beautiful Mind recently and I still miss it so much! I love that drama! I wonder what you feel about it although I guess you’ll share your thoughts later. I wanted to watch Mirror of the Witch but I’m not sure I’m ready to handle a slow drama at the moment.

Hello! I’m glad you loved Beautiful Mind! I really enjoyed seeing all of your love for it over on Twitter.

I really liked it too. I have a lot of thoughts on Beautiful Mind. If you’re interested, I’ll be posting my series review for it later this week. I’ve got it typed already, but I still need to proof it and put in the pictures. There were a lot of different aspects I enjoyed it about the drama. I make sure to highlight them as well as the talented actors. There were a few negatives, but overall, I found it really solid, different, and thought-provoking 🙂

Sadly, many people found Mirror of the Witch slow. But a lot of us still liked it because of the points I mentioned above. But it’s definitely one of those where if you don’t love the story, magic, or are a super fan of any of the actors, the slowness could be enough to prevent really enjoying it.
