Page Turner is a 3 episode drama special that tells the story of two teenagers whose lives are completely changed after they each get into an accident. The two bond after the accident threatens their dreams and they try to find new meaning in their lives.
What an inspiring and heartwarming drama Page Turner is! Coming from the writer of popular dramas such as Pinocchio and I Hear Your Voice, I was pretty optimistic going in to Page Turner. Add in a talented cast including Ji Soo, Kim So Hyun, and Shin Jae Ha to play our teens, and I was more than a little excited for the drama.
Kim So Hyun plays a gifted pianist named Yoo Seul. This girl is tough and tells it like is. After spending her life dedicated to playing the piano, an accident leaving her blind threatens to steal all she has worked for.
Ji Soo plays champion pole vaulter Cha Shik. When he learns he will be unable to play sports anymore, he too is left without a purpose. But when circumstances lead him to playing the piano and helping out Yoo Seul, his life takes on new meaning.
Shin Jae Ha rounds out our group as Jin Mok. He too is a talented pianist, but his ability doesn’t come easy and requires immense effort on his part. He deals with jealousy of Yoo Seul’s gift. But his view of her dramatically changes after her accident.
Okay, so Ji Soo was absolutely the highlight of this drama for me. I already adored him in his previous dramas Angry Mom and Sassy Go Go. And he was so animated and hilarious in Page Turner. His character is very passionate, a little slow on the uptake, and has a heart of gold. He made me laugh to much. But true to Ji Soo’s talents, he also brings the emotional punches when needed with his very moving performance.
I loved the dynamic between him and Kim So Hyun. They were adorable together. She’s the leader in the relationship, and that made for many humorous moments. But they are both able to help each other find new purpose in life.
Shin Jae Ha’s story was interesting as he had a lot to deal with himself. I also liked the relationship between him and Kim So Hyun. They are complete enemies, but they too find they have some common ground.
I felt there was enough material in Page Turner that I still wish it would have been a full length drama. But I’m thrilled with what we got. It was inspirational and heartwarming with characters that make you root for them. All in all, it was a great little drama.
My Rating: 7.5/10
