It looks likes Ahn Kil Kang (Cheese in the Trap) has joined the cast of the new SBS sageuk Daebak (also known as Jackpot). He just happens to be my favorite ahjussi, so I’m thrilled to hear he will part of this production. He joins our peasant prince, Jang Geun Suk (Pretty Man), who has a knack for cards and is seeking to regain his rightful place on the throne.
The drama also stars Yeo Jin Goo (Orange Marmalade) as King Young Jo who is competitive and vicious and Im Ji Yeon (High Society) as a woman seeking revenge and wanting to kill the King.
Ahn Kil Kang will play the role of Jang Geun Suk’s right hand man and will be teaching him martial arts on his quest to regain his throne. Sounds like a perfect role for him. These two could be quite humorous together, so I’m hoping they play that up a bit. It really reminds of the pairing of Ahn Kil Kang as Lee Joon Gi’s mentor in the classic drama Iljimae.
Also recently cast is Kim Ga Eun (Awl) whose character will be a popular gisaeng whose life becomes complicated when she gets involved with Jang Geun Suk. I really enjoy Kim Ga Eun in the smaller roles I have seen her in, and I think she is a great addition to this growing list of wonderful cast members.
I have to say, I am more than a little excited about Daebak!
Daebak tells the story of a prince who is forced to live his life as a commoner, but becomes super skilled at a popular card game. He then goes head to head with the King in an ultimate bet to reclaim his throne.
Daebak is scheduled to premiere in late March on SBS.
