Kill Me Heal Me - Cha Do Hyeon

We can’t deny that we all love our bad boys in the world of kdramas, but occasionally we just want a plain nice guy.  There’s no shortage of cold chaebols and those rough around the edges types that we all love, but it can be tough to wait half of a drama or more for our leading man to sweep our heroine off her feet.  Sometimes it’s just nice to let our leading man charm us with his smile and winning personality right from the get go.

Here’s my list of the top 5 nice guys you can find in Korean dramas:

5. Enrique Geum  – Flower Boy Next Door

Flower Boy Next Door Korean Drama - Yoon Shi Yoon

Enrique (Yoon Shi Yoon) is an adorable ball of energy who will charm his way in to your heart.  Almost right from the beginning, Enrique is curious and sympathetic towards our heroine, Go Dok Mi (Park Shin Hye).

He shows up out of the blue and turns her quiet little world upside down.  But he is just what Dok Mi needed.  With a little pushing and a lot of understanding, Enrique charms his way in to her heart.  He doesn’t hold back with the aegyo, and he remains lovable from start to finish.

4. Cha Do Hyeon – Kill Me, Heal Me

Kill Me Heal Me - Cha Do HyeonCha Do Hyeon (Ji Sung) is unique in that he has multiple personality disorder.  Cha Do Hyeon’s main personality is our classic nice guy, while one of his dominant personalities, Shin Se Ki, is our bad boy.  Right from the beginning, Cha Do Hyeon is polite and considerate to our heroine Oh Ri Jin (Hwang Jung Eum).

Of course, you could argue that Shin Se Ki was nice to Oh Ri Jin from the beginning since he was never shy about his feelings for her, but he was a bit of a forceful personality and doesn’t quite fit the ‘nice’ guy mold.   We got to enjoy two types in one with Cha Do Hyeon, but his main personality gets points for being the atypical nice guy in the world of dramas.

3. Kang Ho Goo – Ho Goo’s Love

Ho Goo's Love Korean Drama - Choi Woo Shik

Kang Ho Goo (Choi Woo Shik) is naïve, but he’s one of the sweetest guys you’ll find in a drama.  He goes above and beyond for his girl Do Do Hee (Uee).  He supports her through an unplanned pregnancy and labor, he hides her from the reporters out to expose her, and he is ready and willing to step in and fill the father role for her baby.  Who wouldn’t love Ho Goo!

2. Han Jung Woo – I Miss You

I Miss You Korean Drama - Park Yoo Chun

Hang Jung Woo (Park Yoo Chun) fell for his first love Lee Soo Yeon (Yoon Eun Hye) as a teenager.  When she was tragically separated from him, he devoted his life to finding her by becoming a detective.  When he did find her, he did whatever Soo Yeon needed in order to work through her complicated feelings.  He waited 14 years for her, and he would continue to wait as long as it took.  And once she finally comes around, he becomes about the best boyfriend you could dream of having.

And our number one spot goes to…

1.  Kim Tak Gu – King of Baking

King of Baking Korean Drama - Yoon Shi Yoon

Kim Tak Gu (Yoon Shi Yoon) is the ultimate nice guy.  Despite the world constantly being against him, he won’t let anything get him down.  He always sees the positive in any situation, and he is willing to work hard to accomplish his goals.

He wants everyone to be happy and even though our antagonist Ma Jun (Joo Won) does what he can to cause trouble for Tak Gu, Tak Gu really just wants to be his friend.  Aww, how sweet!  Tak Gu is also there for both girls in his life whenever they need him.  I think there’s a reason why Yoon Shi Yoon ended up on this list twice…he simply plays the perfect nice guy!

Honorable Mention: Cha Dae Woong – My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho Korean DramaCha Dae Woong (Lee Seung Gi) wins the honorable mention because he really is one amazing guy.  He’s a bit mean to our leading lady Gu Mi Ho (Shin Min Ah) in the first episode, but because he is afraid of her, he quickly starts doing what she wants and being nice to her.

But it only takes him a few episodes to change his tune and genuinely start caring for Mi Ho.  All in all, he has pretty nice and pleasant personality right from the get go, and he is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for his girl.  That’s why he really should be included on our list of nice guys!

Well, there you have it.  With all of those cold chaebols in need of some love before they sweeten up, sometimes we just want to let a leading man charm his way in to our hearts from day one.  If you want to feel some love and see lots of cute, any of these guys should do the trick.

So who’s your favorite nice guy?  Did he make the list?
