Big Mouth is about a third-rate lawyer (Lee Jong Suk) who talks big despite having a terrible win rate. He takes on a murder case involving a big conspiracy and ends up framed as a notorious criminal and sent to prison. He and his wife (Yoona) then have to work to clear his name.
Lee Jong Suk plays Park Chang Ho. He’s an incompetent lawyer that talks big and has the nickname Big Mouth. When the Mayor gets him involved in a big case, his life takes a turn for the worse as he ends up in prison.
Yoona is Ko Mi Ho. She is Chang Ho’s wife and also a nurse. After her husband goes to jail, she will stop at nothing to clear his name and get him out.
Big Mouth was a fun drama. The story is fast-paced and filled with suspense all the way through. There are a lot of fun twists and turns along the way too.
The story centers around Chang Ho being framed and sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. While in prison, he is mistaken for the notorious criminal Big Mouse. At first, we see the difficult journey Chang Ho goes through adjusting to prison life. But things shift after he realizes he needs to embrace the identity of Big Mouse to keep himself safe and find out who Big Mouse really is.
The drama did extremely well at keeping Big Mouse’s identity a secret. It really keeps you guessing as it throws suspicion onto a number of people. I love seeing a story that’s actually good at not being obvious as to who the mysterious person is.
The first half of the drama is quite fun going through all of the prison power dynamics, shifting loyalties, and just trying to survive. Now, I will say that whenever we do finally get the Big Mouse reveal, it was initially interesting, but the aftermath ended up feeling a bit lackluster. It wasn’t bad, just a bit underwhelming.
That being said, the story does continue moving along nicely as we still have a big bad to deal with on the outside who is involved in an intricate conspiracy. I liked the dynamic of Chang Ho dealing with things on the inside of the prison while Mi Ho handled things on the outside.
Chang Ho is an interesting character. He goes from a fairly normal, though overconfident, man to the lowest of lows. He then has to learn to navigate an incredibly complex situation and do things he never dreamed of. Lee Jong Suk was fantastic and gave a great performance.
Mi Ho goes all out for her husband and does everything she can to help him. She definitely makes a lot of bad and risky decisions, but her character is consistent throughout. While she did a lot of things I didn’t like, I did appreciate her love and dedication for Chang Ho.
The drama really shines with its entire cast. Of course, our main leads did great, but we also have a plethora of amazing supporting characters ranging from good to gray to bad. I loved the variety, and they all kept things very interesting.
Something to keep in mind with this drama is that it’s a bit far-fetched and over the top at times. It’s a story to not take too seriously and to just try and roll with some of the logic stretches. If you can do that, it’s a very fun and thrilling ride.
I have seen a lot of mixed opinions about the ending of the drama. I will say the last couple episodes are a bit rushed, but I didn’t find it too bad. The actual ending itself was told in a quick way, but I was perfectly fine with it and very satisfied. Your mileage may vary.
So, overall, I really enjoyed a Big Mouth. With a suspenseful and engaging story combined with a fantastic cast, it was enjoyable all the way through.
