Korean Drama Update for March 2025

March gave me the the suspense romance When the Phone Rings and the fun older rom-com Who Are You: School 2015 which I quite enjoyed. Here’s how they went:

When the Phone Rings

When the Phone Rings Korean Drama - Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin

When the Phone Rings was a pretty fun ride with a good dose of suspense along with a side of soapy dramatics. The story is quick paced and gets going right off the back. What seems like a fairly straightforward story of a kidnapping soon takes an unexpected turn as a game of cat and mouse takes shape.

The drama had several surprising twists and great cliffhangers. There are definitely a few plot points that require some suspension of disbelief that you just have to roll with and some very questionable character decisions, but for the most part, it was easy to go along for the ride.

Overall, When the Phone Rings was a very entertaining watch. I really liked the mix of suspense and drama along with a complicated romance. I was always interested in what was going to happen next, and it was solid all the way through.  I had a great time with it. (When the Phone Rings Review)

Who Are You: School 2015

Who Are You: School 2015 was a wonderful drama for me. It contains everything I love about dramas from this time period with the atmosphere, storyline, and a fantastic soundtrack that is played repeatedly. It has a well-executed trading places story, an entertaining love triangle, great exploration of many issues, and a nice helping of dramatics.

The show has a great balance of humor and serious that kept the drama from feeling too heavy despite some of the subject matter. The love triangle is something else, and I got some serious Second Lead Syndrome, but it was still good. Overall, Who Are You: School 2015 is lots of fun with an old-school vibe that makes for an all-around good time. (Who Are You: School 2015 Review)

So how was March for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

I’ve watched so many dramas last month that in the end they all sterted to blurr into one another. I dropped most of them, which probably comes as no surprise to anyone, ha.

The one I stuck till the end was “Filter”, a cdrama where a high tec filter can alter how others see you all the way down to your clothes and voice. It was a lot of fun and even had a positive message about how we are all unique and beautiful in our own ways.

I’m almost done with Unnatural Fire, a mystery/crime drama and I’m half way through with Undercover High School, which has been pretty good so far. I like that it isn’t really taking itself too seriously. A good call, considering the premise. 🙂

Oooh, I do like the premise of Filter. I’ll have to read up on it and see if I might be interested.

I’ve been undecided on Undercover High School, but I like that it doesn’t take itself too seriously which would make it a lot more fun 🙂

Filter was a nice surprise. I wasn’t initally going to watch it (modern cdramas seldom work for me) but then I started hearing a lot of positve buzz and thought “why not ?” Ended up liking it a lot. I also like Tan Jian Ci (the male lead) and I know he’s pretty good at comedy. I liked the FL too. In fact the whole cast was great, including all of those who were the FL’s “filter personas”. Drama didn’t botch the ending either. Bonus points for the lama. 😁

It’s always fun when a drama you weren’t initially interested in catches your attention and turns out being great 😊 And to deliver a good ending is always a feat! 😅
