Korean Drama Update for February 2025

Moving onto February, I got in the old-school rom-com Big that has been on my watch list for over a decade! Here’s how it went:

Big

Big is a 2012 body swapping drama that really embodies shows of its time. I absolutely loved the atmosphere, and it’s got that Hong sisters drama vibe with its comedy, quirky characters, and lots of fun music played repeatedly. I seriously loved the feel of this series.

I would say the first two-thirds are the best and quite a bit of fun with the body switching shenanigans and Gong Yoo delivering a great comedic performance. The latter third does get a bit repetitive at times. It also gets more serious which some might not like, but I think it helped push the plot forward.

I think many fans will really dislike ending too. For me, it wasn’t the greatest, but it also wasn’t the worst. So overall, I had a good time with Big. It’s mostly light-hearted fun with that 2012 style I was looking for at this moment in time. (Big Review)

So how was February for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

Watched 7 and dropped 2 this month.

Check in Hanyang. Haven’t watched a period drama in a while. A decent back story, a girl dressed as a boy, the fun “gang”, the bad “gang”, potential romance. Not enough romance but the group dynamics were enjoyable and the politics was not overly difficult to understand and was balanced enough with the rest of the story. Went from fun and light 1st half to super serious in the 2nd half which wasn’t great but ok to finish.

Love Scout. Enjoyable enough watching the super green flag ML secretary and the cold FL boss both with their own sad back stories. Enjoyable and entertaining cast. Fairly run of the mill but at 12 episodes helped move it along.

Motel California. Love the cast but found the pace too slow, story a bit contrived, and the FL (an actress I love) annoying. Made it hard to slog through. A little too morose for me but finished as it was another 12 episode drama.

Study Group. My favorite this month. I wasn’t planning to watch but reviews were good enough to make me want to give it a chance and so glad I did. A lot of swearing and fighting/violence but was not expecting the funny and quirky vibe.

Hospital Playlist Seasons 1 & 2. I had this on my list for years but was worried about the hospital setting but after watching Trauma Code figured I’d press play and so glad I did! Not as much blood and gore as I was expecting. A great cast and entertaining though episodic. Over an hour per episode so just one per night is enough to keep things moving. It was meant to be 3 seasons so feels a bit in need of tying up loose ends but apparently it was difficult to film so it may be a while, if ever, that we’ll see season 3. It was probably one of the best series out there.

Also finished 2 variety shows which are not my usual genres. Rented in Finland which had some hit and miss episodes. 10 episodes were too much, maybe 6 or 8 would have been better as it got fairly repetitive by the end. Very funny at times though. Also watched Whenever Possible. Only watched episodes with guests that I was interested in but I’ll definitely watch if there’s another season.

Dropped Melo Movie and The Witch after a few episodes. Both just way to slow and uninteresting for me.

You’re Super busy again 😊 Glad to hear you enjoyed Check in Hanyang. That one is on my list. Love a good group 😊

Love Scout is on the maybe list. Now you have my interest piqued on Study Group. That wasn’t on my list, but now I may have to look into it more.

I’d love to see Hospital Playlist, but my aversion to hospital dramas is strong, lol.
