Korean Drama Update for November 2024

For the month of November, I enjoyed the fantasy romance The Atypical Family. Here’s how it went:

The Atypical Family

The Atypical Family was a fantastic drama all around. I found it to be extremely unique in every way. The premise itself is different, and there aren’t a lot of the usual tropes. It has this mysterious and melancholic quality to it that draws you in.ย  The series is very contemplative and really allows the audience to take in each scene and what it means for the story and characters. It has some very emotional moments that really leave an impact. The pacing isn’t really quick, but I felt like it was always moving nicely along.

The time travel element had a unique twist to it that was fun to see play out. I liked learning how everything tied together and how all of the different past and present events intertwined.ย Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed The Atypical Family. I appreciated the unique premise and beautifully told story. The wonderful cast brought to life complex and interesting characters. I was always interested in what would happen next and felt the show had lots of heart. Contemplative, unique, engaging, complex, and beautiful sum up this drama. (The Atypical Family Review)

So how was November for you?

I haven’t watched anything Korean in ages. As it is, I haven’t watched anything much lately as I just moved and the past few weeks have all been mostly preparing for that. O.M.G – it was exhausting! Getting 40 odd years worth of stuff sorted out and packed up took a whole lotta effort. There’s still a lot I have to get rid off but that can wait.

I did somehow manage to finish two C-dramas though; Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, which I liked a lot. It’s one of the better “idol” dramas that actually has a proper plot and a good conclusion. Dawn Amidst Hidden Clouds wasn’t bad either but it’s pretty standard fare and I don’t actually remember much of the plot anymore, ha. I guess it worked well as fluffy filler to take my mind off of other things. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh wow, I can imagine how exhausting your move was! And 40 years worth of stuff will definitely take a toll. I hope you’re settling in to your now place and can take your time with all of the stuff.

At least you found some time for cdramas. Funny you mention Love Game as I just came across that one yesterday and have added it to my short list. I still don’t watch many cdramas, but that one really caught my eye, and I want to give it a go. So I’m glad you enjoyed it and also thought Dawn was decent. Fluffy filler sounds like a good idea in the midst of a big move ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thankfully I had help on the moving day as my sister and niece came over. The actual load was hadled by a removal firm with 3 guys and a big truck. ๐Ÿ˜‰ My sis also came few days after to help with a few chores that had to be done. Surprisingly all the furniture and most of the stuff has by now found their places, just a few boxes still to unpack. It went a lot faster than I expected. I didn’t move far, just to the next suburb about 2 km away from where I used to live. I like the area.

Yes, Love Game was quite good over all and it has a very nice lead cast (2 couples). I also have a soft spot for Ding Yu Xi, the main ML. ๐Ÿ˜€ I’ve seen several of his dramas this year and he’s been petty solid in all of them.

Oh that’s good! I’m so glad you had help (especially the 3 guys with a bit truck, hehe) and that a lot of stuff has already found a home. It helps not having to move to far too. The last time I moved was many years ago, but it wasn’t too far from my old place, and we just kept loading up the car over and over and taking stuff back and forth. It was a lot of trips, but it was helpful to do it over multiple days and get things where they needed to go ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve never seen Ding Yu Xi, so I’ll look forward to an introduction to him in Love Game ๐Ÿ™‚

Glad you liked Atypical Family. It was definitely an odd one – getting away from the tropes – which is nice for a change. I finished 3 and dropped 1 in November.

    1. Family By Choice – Completely caught off guard on how much I enjoyed this one. I wasn’t even planning to watch but saw how many people were enjoying it so I gave it a go and so happy I did. Reminded me about how much I enjoyed Twinkling Watermelon last year. The acting by all was incredible and the cast was perfect. It is definitely not light and fluffy but it is incredibly good.

    2. Discovery of Love – an older drama with Eric Mun, Sung Hoon, and Jung Yu Mi. Not bad love triangle romance to pass the time. Nothing to write home about but enjoyable.

    3. You’re the best – another old drama, this time with Jo Jung Suk and IU. A bit torturous to get all the way through the 50 episodes but at some point it’s too late to drop so had to finish. One of those slice of life, poor acting and story, can’t really recommend.

    4. Mr. Plankton – dropped after episode 1. Very gritty and dark and I didn’t expect a happy ending and that’s just not my thing.

Definitely unique and nice a change of pace ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s great you liked Family By Choice so much. I was kind of undecided on it, but I may have to consider it more. I’ve had Discovery on my list for ages. Maybe someday I’ll get to it, lol. You’re the Best too, but the long ep count was always a deterrent.

Yeah, I’ll be staying away from Mr. Plankton too. It looked too dark.
