Love to Hate You Korean Drama - Yoo Teo and Kim Ok Bin

For June, I watched the romantic comedy Love to Hate You which was okay for the most part.  Here’s how it went:

Love to Hate You Korean Drama - Yoo Teo and Kim Ok BinLove to Hate You

Love to Hate You was a mixed drama for me. It’s a romantic comedy that deals with relationships as well as issues like discrimination between the sexes. It’s mostly light-hearted but does sprinkle in some more serious and thoughtful moments.

The first half of the series took some warming up to as I found it slow, I didn’t really like the characters, and I wasn’t feeling the overall tone. Now, as a whole, I enjoyed the second half of the series a lot more including the characters, relationship developments, and some of the issues that were touched upon.

So, in the end, Love to Hate You was a decent watch.  I do wish it would have been more even throughout, but it was a cute overall. (Love to Hate You Review)

So how was June for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

For June I just finished watching Dr Romanic which was good. Also Dr Romantic 2 which was much much better. And I’m watching Alone.which s a 2011 movie. Interesting how a movie has a different feel than the Korean TV shows. There’s a slightly more adult presentation since it doesn’t have the restrictions of a TV show. I highly recommend Alone.

You got in a lot of Dr. Romantic in June 🙂 Yes, the movies have quite a different feel than many of the dramas. Definitely more mature.

I spent the month of June away from my normal life (not quite a vacation but not quite not) so had the time to watch/finish 6 and drop 2 dramas 🙂

Unlock my boss – It’s not normally the type of drama I enjoy but w/ Kay’s positive review and just 12 episodes I gave it a go. It was really well done, well acted, and an interesting story. I had issues with the use of the child to tug at the heartstrings and not understanding how you could essentially torture her by not having her speak to her only parent even on the phone didn’t make sense to me. I also had the breath knocked out of me at the end of episode 10 that if I’d known I might not have invested so much emotionally with that character.

My Perfect Stranger – another genre I wouldn’t normally watch but again, I love the actors and the story was interesting with twists and turns throughout so it always kept you guessing ’til the very end. They tried to shoehorn in a romance at the end which honestly made no sense and felt so contrived otherwise the rest of the series was a decent watch if you’re into a time travelling serial murder mystery.

Heartstrings – on oldie that I’ve had on my watchlist for a while. It was an ok watch and cute to see some of the early work of actors I’ve been watching over the years.

Casting a Spell to you – I had no idea what to expect and as a fan of High Society/The Priveleged, I was really eager to watch 3 of the leads from that in this. I loved this one so much that I re-watched High Society. I could watch hurt, soulful Sung Joon in anything. It had all of the usual tropes that I love in my k-dramas so if you like the old school stuff, this is up your alley.

The full-time wife escapist – this was a J-drama I’d heard really good things about and I absolutely enjoyed it. If you’ve watched J and K dramas you’ll know there’s such a difference in quality but if you can get past that and the lack of oomph, overall it was a really pleasant watch. Finding out that the actors actually got married IRL made it all the more enjoyable to watch as they navigated a contract marriage that turned into real romance and a family by the end. They also included what happend around COVID which I think is the first time I’ve seen that in a drama.

Dinner Mate – found this on Prime which seems to have more and more kdramas. Not sure when that happened but between Viki, Netflix, and now Prime, I feel like I’m drowning in choices. Unfortunately, I haven’t found much of the dramas on Prime to my taste. Dinner Mate had an interesting story and I love Song Seung Heon but this drama dragged so much I had to keep fast forwarding through scenes and some of the story lines were so boring I skipped them as the series progressed. By the end I was glad for it to be over.

Crazy Romance – another one I found on Prime that I dropped after the 1st 2 episodes. Normally I love Gong Hyo Jin but the leads in this were so unlikeable I couldn’t stick with it. If anyone else has seen this and loved it please let me know and I’ll give it another go.

Oh My Ladylord – Another one on Prime that I dropped. I stuck it out for about 8 episodes before giving up. I read a bit on how it ended and found it lacking in the chemistry department so figured I’d save myself some time.

Right now I’m watching King the Land (OMG is this good and will be hard to wait to watch week to week!), See you in my 19th Life (just 1 episode so far but promising), and Oh Young Shim (which I might drop as the FL is really tough to take).

Wow, finishing 6 is impressive! 🙂 I’m so glad you were able to enjoy Unlock My Boss after reading my review (despite the surprise fate of one of our characters 😭). I think we had similar experiences with Heartstrings.

Oooh, you have me kind of interested in Casting a Spell to You. That one took forever to come out and then I sort of forgot about it, lol. I’ll have to look into it again.

Both My Perfect Stranger and The Full Time Wife Escapist sound fun.

Too bad about the several dropped dramas.

I’m really looking forward to King the Land, so I’m glad to hear you’re liking it. Will probably be giving See You in My 19th Life and Oh Young Shim a look too 🙂

    I finished 3 dramas in June 2023:

The Secret Romantic Guesthouse – well paced and pleasantly surprising.
Giant – a classic well worth watching.
Unlock My Boss – how did this fly low in my radar? Such a great little drama with the right mix of humor, suspence, and heart.

Currently watching Joseon Attorney and See You In My 19th Life. Dropped King The Land.

I still want to check out The Secret Romantic Guesthouse. I’m glad you enjoyed it. And yes, Unlock My Boss was a fun little drama! I was pleasantly surprised with that one. Good luck with your current crop of dramas 🙂
