Unlock My Boss is about an unemployed man (Chae Jong Hyeop) who finds a smartphone, and the smartphone starts talking to him and claiming that it is actually the CEO of a big company (Park Sung Woong) whose soul is trapped in it. The man then tries to help and find out the truth.
Chae Jong Hyeop plays Park In Sung. He’s unemployed and trying to land a good job, but that proves to be difficult. Then one day he finds a smartphone claiming to be the CEO of a large IT company who tells In Sung he will make him the CEO of the company if he helps him.
Park Sung Woong is Kim Sun Joo who is the CEO of an IT Company. Things have been going great for him, but when someone tries to take him down, Sun Joo ends up trapped inside of a smartphone.
Seo Eun Soo is Jung Se Yeon. She is Kim Sun Joo’s secretary who is dedicated to her job as she struggles through life and tries to pay back a huge debt.
Unlock My Boss certainly has one of the quirky premises that you don’t see every day with a CEO getting trapped inside of a smartphone. It grabbed my attention! And I’m glad I checked it out as this was a solid drama overall.
We get a nice mixture of genres with a mystery concerning the CEO and some action along with it. There’s also humor and heart as we get to know the characters and their struggles.
It was fun watching as In Sung goes from being a nobody to the CEO of a company. It brought lots of challenges for sure. We also see him grow as he really has to step into his new role and gets deeply involved in the mystery surrounding what happened to Sun Joo.
We meet Sun Joo early in the drama, but he soon gets trapped in the smartphone. Even then, we still get to know him as a genius CEO as well as a loving father both through flashbacks and as his conversations with In Sung.
Then Eun Soo has many challenges of her own as she gets pulled into the mystery when she becomes In Sung’s secretary. Each character had a fleshed out story to explore.
Of course, there are several baddies in this drama located at Sun Joo’s company as well as involved in other happenings. They added plenty of conflict and mystery as they caused trouble for our leads. Ma Pi (Kim Sung Oh) in particular was a very interesting character that really surprised me.
Though the concept of a man being trapped in a smartphone it a bit unusual, for the most part the drama played out pretty straightforward with the characters investigating what happened. There are a few instances where Sun Joo being a smartphone came in handy and a few others where it caused trouble.
There is a bit of romance to enjoy too between In Sung and Eun Soo. This is more of a slow-burn relationship that doesn’t fully blossom until well into the drama, but it was a nice relationship to see take shape.
Unlock My Boss is a solid drama that I enjoyed. It has a quirky premise but handles everything in a pretty straightforward manner. The story was paced well with a couple of nice twists, and the characters were interesting. The mystery element moved things along while the heart and humor delivered thoughtful moments along the way. Overall, it was a good watch.
My Rating: 7/10
