Unlock My Boss Korean Drama - Chae Jong Hyeop and Seo Eun Soo

Unlock My Boss is about an unemployed man (Chae Jong Hyeop) who finds a smartphone, and the smartphone starts talking to him and claiming that it is actually the CEO of a big company (Park Sung Woong) whose soul is trapped in it.  The man then tries to help and find out the truth.

Seo Eun Soo is Jung Se Yeon. She is Kim Sun Joo’s secretary who is dedicated to her job as she struggles through life and tries to pay back a huge debt.

Unlock My Boss certainly has one of the quirky premises that you don’t see every day with a CEO getting trapped inside of a smartphone. It grabbed my attention! And I’m glad I checked it out as this was a solid drama overall.

We get a nice mixture of genres with a mystery concerning the CEO and some action along with it. There’s also humor and heart as we get to know the characters and their struggles.

Unlock My Boss Korean Drama - Chae Jong Hyeop

It was fun watching as In Sung goes from being a nobody to the CEO of a company. It brought lots of challenges for sure. We also see him grow as he really has to step into his new role and gets deeply involved in the mystery surrounding what happened to Sun Joo.

We meet Sun Joo early in the drama, but he soon gets trapped in the smartphone. Even then, we still get to know him as a genius CEO as well as a loving father both through flashbacks and as his conversations with In Sung.

Unlock My Boss Korean Drama - Seo Eun Soo

Then Eun Soo has many challenges of her own as she gets pulled into the mystery when she becomes In Sung’s secretary. Each character had a fleshed out story to explore.

Unlock My Boss Korean Drama - Kim Sung OhOf course, there are several baddies in this drama located at Sun Joo’s company as well as involved in other happenings. They added plenty of conflict and mystery as they caused trouble for our leads. Ma Pi (Kim Sung Oh) in particular was a very interesting character that really surprised me.

Though the concept of a man being trapped in a smartphone it a bit unusual, for the most part the drama played out pretty straightforward with the characters investigating what happened. There are a few instances where Sun Joo being a smartphone came in handy and a few others where it caused trouble.

There is a bit of romance to enjoy too between In Sung and Eun Soo. This is more of a slow-burn relationship that doesn’t fully blossom until well into the drama, but it was a nice relationship to see take shape.

Unlock My Boss Korean Drama - Chae Jong Hyeop

Unlock My Boss is a solid drama that I enjoyed. It has a quirky premise but handles everything in a pretty straightforward manner. The story was paced well with a couple of nice twists, and the characters were interesting. The mystery element moved things along while the heart and humor delivered thoughtful moments along the way. Overall, it was a good watch.

My Rating: 7/10

I started this buy wanted to wait for your review as it seemed more work drams than romance but if it’s a solid 7 for you I’ll keep watching 👍

I did find this one to be pretty solid. Nothing revolutionary, but a bit quirky and entertaining. The romance is a slow burn and more low key. I think it moves more from just work drama to corporate suspense with a does of heart and comedy. I really have no clue how you will feel about this one, so I’m curious as to what you will think 😅

I finished this and I agree with your ratings. The story was solid, it was mostly fast paced, tho a few times they seemed to slow things down quite a bit compared to the early frenetic episodes but all in all a good series, however…

SPOILERS – How could they do that to Ma Pi? I didn’t expect to love that character as I did, I didn’t expect his story arc, and then to have that happen to him – I kept expecting him to show up in the end, for it to all have been some sort of ruse to root out the insider. I can’t tell you how much the end of that certain episode floored me. Actually got an audible gasp out of me, jaw dropped.

I didn’t love the way they handled the story with the child. She almost seemed to have been used as a plot point for cute and sad and I really don’t like seeing her emotions being manipulated that way. I would have preferred her having more contact with her phone dad earlier and when they found out who he really was, they could have switched it the way it eventually did. All of that came way too late.

I loved the twist and the way they tied up the story. I might have missed it but was there an explation of why he returned after being deleted?

I’m glad you found this to be a mostly good series too 🙂 I do totally get your issues though. SPOILERS: I too was so surprised by how they developed Ma Pi’s character and how much I ended up enjoying him. And then to get such a tragic ending! So unexpected as most dramas like this just don’t pull the trigger by killing off a character like that. I was so sad 🙁

I wasn’t too bothered by how they handled his daughter, but I see what you mean and I too would have liked to have seen them let her connect with her phone dad much sooner.

The twist was definitely excellent as was the story wrap up. As for the Bara program being deleted, I didn’t think it ever was actually deleted. Baro initiated deleting himself, and we saw the progress bar as it was happening, but the scene ended before the program was 100% deleted. So I just assumed Baro was swayed and stopped the deletion.

The story of the show is interesting and a modern topic, artificial intelligence and self-driving cars. And a boss who gets trapped in a cell phone.
The cast was good though I think Seo Eun-Su’s role had her too “laid back”. While I understand this was a suspense SiFi the romance between
Park In-Sung and Jung Se-Yeon should have been stronger and with a more definitive happy ending.

A shout out goes to Kim Sung-Oh for his role as Ma-Pi.

SPOILER The show ends with Kim Sun-Joo still in a coma (though his eye slightly twitches just as the show ends).Sorry, but that’s not the way to end the show.
I’m pretty much in sync with Kay on this one.

It does sound like we had pretty similar experiences with this one. It was a good drama with a bit of a unique spin. I too would have enjoyed a bit more on the romance side as well a more satisfying ending. And yes, Kim Sung Oh was fantastic! Such a surprising character that was fun to watch 🙂
