The Fabulous follows the work, romance, and friendships of four young people in the fashion industry including a freelance photo editor (Minho), a woman (Chae Soo Bin) who works at a high end fashion agency, a designer (Lee Sang Woon), and a model (Park Hee Jung).
Minho plays Ji Woo Min who is a freelance photo editor. He used to date his close friend Pyo Ji Eun, but he has some unresolved feelings for her.
Chae Soo Bin is Pyo Ji Eun who works at a high end fashion agency. As she struggles with her work life, conflicting feelings also begin to cause her problems in her dating life.
To round out our friend group, we then have Joseph (Lee Sang Woon) who is a fashion designer and Ye Seon Ho (Park Hee Jung) who is a successful model.
I have to say, The Fabulous was not really that fabulous of a drama. It was okay, but that basically sums up how I feel about it. We get a story within the backdrop of the fashion world involving designers, agents, models, and photographers.
While I quite liked the setting, the story itself felt pretty slow and boring. There were definitely plenty of things happening within the fashion world, but the plot didn’t have a great flow and most of the dramatics fell flat. A lot of things also felt kind of forced within the relationships.
The other major negative for me was that I really did not care for any of the characters in this drama. That’s fairly unusual for me. Everyone was either annoying or just plain unlikable. Now, I did eventually warm up to neutral towards Woo Min and Ji Eun after a couple of episodes, but that was it. It’s just hard to love a drama when you don’t like anyone.
We do get to explore Woo Min and Ji Eun’s complicated relationship. These former lovers turned friends had some complex feelings for each other, and we go on a journey with them as they try to figure out if they could be more than friends again.
I didn’t particularly love these two individually or when they weren’t really getting along, but I did quite like them when they were happy together. Both of them just brightened up so much when they were getting along and were even quite cute when actually being romantic.
We also follow the struggles of the other two in our friend group. We watch Joseph maneuver his way through the design world and Seon Ho deal with many challenging working in the modeling industry. Each character had their own journey to go on.
The group of friends in the show is very tight knit. Not only do they all work in the same industry, but they gather together a lot to spend time as friends. They celebrate each other’s wins and mourn each other’s sorrows. They are a very supportive group of friends that are there for each other no matter what.
So overall, I was a bit disappointed with The Fabulous. It’s not a bad drama with its exploration of different careers and struggles in the fashion industry, multiple romances, and a supportive group of friends. It can definitely serve as an easy filler drama.
But I was hoping for an exciting look into the fashion world along with an engaging story and characters I was interested in. Those things didn’t happen which left me feeling very meh towards the drama overall.
My Rating: 5.5/10
