Arthdal Chronicles Korean Drama - Song Joong Ki

The big finale week came for Arthdal Chronicles, and it went out on a good note in Nielsen drama ratings. Its numbers improved from last week as it brought in 6.4% for episode 17 on Saturday and then rose to 7.4% for episode 18 on Sunday which was the highest ratings it has seen since part 1 of the drama. So all in all, it was a solid run for the drama. Good job to the cast and crew for all of their hard work!

Annnnnd to just about everyone’s surprise it turned out that this outing was just S1 and there’s more to come. 🙄 Way to fool everyone tvN! I’ve seen plenty of ranting around the internets.

I still have 2 eps left and have stayed unspoiled, but I did hear the ending didn’t resolve everything and about the potential for a season 2. I wonder if they’ll actually move forward with it though. The series definitely had really good ratings, but I’m not sure it was as good as they hoped or as much as the huge budget warranted. Maybe if Netflix really wanted it that would give the extra push to go forward since it did well on there. Guess we’ll see, hehe

Well, I found Drama wanting from the get go, so I didn’t bother past the first few episodes. The premise was interesting but I think they just didn’t know how to make it work properly. Constructing a period fantasy differs from making a historical drama. Maybe they should have studied similar Chinese dramas first to see what works and what not. 😉

I’ve liked the drama for the most part though it definitely has its pros and cons. But for me that mostly came down to my experiences with these writers who like politics and bad guy scheming a lot which is something I don’t care for.

But I liked the fantasy aspect. I was worried how I would feel about the show since I struggle with the ancient fantasies when it comes to cdramas, but oddly enough, I did a lot better with this one than I do with cdramas. I hate being confused during the world and character setup, and with cdramas it always takes me a long time to figure out what’s going on and I usually lose interest. I was able to grasp this one quickly pretty well despite being fairly complex for a kdrama. So I had mixed feelings for it, but thankfully it came out mostly good. Although far from perfect, I think it was a great first attempt at this sort of genre and hope to see more kdramas attempt it 🙂

It was not a great drama, but it was definitely not as bad as some viewers thought it was. I just wish it had a real ending. Let’s hope that a second season will wrap things up.

Viewers seem to be pretty split on it. Some loved it and some hated it. I mostly liked it, thought with some major caveats. I too wish the ending wasn’t so completely unresolved. We definitely need a second season.
