The King: The Eternal Monarch - Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun

It looks like the upcoming Korean drama The King: The Eternal Monarch starring Lee Min Ho (Legend of the Blue Sea) and Kim Go Eun (Goblin: The Lonely and Great God) has found a network! It is set to air on SBS in the first half of 2020.

Hit writer Kim Eun Sook’s last couple of dramas, Mr. Sunshine and Goblin: The Great and Lonely God, aired on tvN, so I thought that might be where this new one would land, especially considering how big budget her dramas are. But it looks like she’s returning to the public networks this time around. I’m sure it will still have an ample budget and be plenty grand though.

The King: The Eternal Monarch is about parallel worlds with one being the Empire of Korea and the other the Republic of Korea. The emperor (Lee Min Ho) of the Korean Empire teams up with a detective (Kim Go Eun) from the Republic of Korea to try and close the door between the worlds.

I loved Kim Go Eun in Goblin so I would have checked out a new series with her either way, regardless of what it would be about. But now reading the premise for this one I’m even more excited for it. This sounds really amazing. Can’t wait to see a first trailer😊

Yep, she’s really good 🙂 I was glad to see her reuniting with this writer. And the premise does sound just as grand as you would hope too. I love parallel world type stuff, so adding that with this writer and these actors, well, I’m pretty excited! 🙂

I loved Mr. Sunshine, but I found Goblin rather underwhelming and almost boring. I like the actors though, so I will check this new drama out!

Hopefully, it’s more like Mr. Sunshine for you then 🙂 I really liked both Mr. Sunshine and Goblin, though I thought both were a bit long which caused some dragginess here and there.

Since we’re moving back to a public network this time, at least the episodes themselves shouldn’t be as long. I guess they could shoot for something like 24 eps to make up for it though, lol. Like you, I love the actors too, so it will be on my must watch list 🙂
