May was pretty entertaining as I got in three very different dramas. There was the quirky comedy Eulachacha Waikiki 2, the mystery crime romance He is Psychometric, and the hit satirical drama SKY Castle:

Eulachacha Waikiki 2 Korean Drama - Lee Yi Kyung, Moon Ga Young, Kim Sun Ho, Ahn So Hee, Shin Hyun Soo, Kim Ye WonEulachacha Waikiki 2

Eulachacha Waikiki 2 is one of those beautiful rare dramas that actually makes me laugh out loud from start to finish. It was a ton of fun with a hefty dose of heartwarming goodness. The comedy style is completely over-the-top and focuses a lot on characters getting into crazy trouble all of the time. The characters are also unique, quirky, and become quite endearing as the drama progresses as they each have their own little personal journeys to go on.

There are several romantic pairings that serve as cute side plots too that offer plenty of sweet moments. And for me, Lee Yi Kyung was the true star with his amazing comedic abilities that make me laugh like no other. He’s truly wonderful! Eulachacha Waikiki 2 had me smiling and laughing all the way through which makes it quite special. (Eulachacha Waikiki 2)

He is Psychometric Korean Drama - Jinyoung and Shin Ye EunHe is Psychometric

He is Psychometric is that exact mixture of elements I love. There is a nice romantic side to the show that is very sweet and fun, but then there is the main crime element that is much darker. And it gets more serious as the drama progresses.

The show did an excellent job by having a very intriguing mystery included from the very beginning that nicely peels back those layers throughout. This drama is the definition of a serialized crime drama with all of the crimes dealt with tying into the main mystery. It makes every investigation feel relevant to our characters and their story.

Everything was laid out well with fantastic pacing, and it got more suspenseful as it went which really kept me interested. The mix of mystery/crime and romantic elements blended together nicely to create a type of story that I really love. He is Psychometric was very enjoyable all around, and I really wish there were more dramas out there that pulled off this mixture so well. (He is Psychometric Review)

SKY Castle Korean Drama - Yum Jung Ah, Yoon Se Ah, Oh Na Ra, Jung Joon Ho, Kim Byung Chul, Jo Jae Yun, Choi Won Young, Lee Tae Ran, Kim Seo HyungSKY Castle

SKY Castle was a ratings monster, and that is the sole reason that I checked it out. It is a satirical black comedy about all that wealthy families go through to get their kids into good universities. I found myself feeling quite conflicted about it though. My experience can be summed up in that the first third was fairly dull, the middle was decent, and the last third was crazy good.

It was a slow burning drama built upon each episode to ramp up the intensity, and then in that last third things just get all kinds of wild! Everything hits the fan as all of that build up culminates in multiple story lines coming to a head. Lots of drama and fireworks ensue. With story lines like intense family pressure, suicide, and murder, this drama turned out to be a whole lot more than just kids getting into good schools.

While I greatly appreciated the groundwork that was laid early on to result in some big payoffs towards the end, the slowness for such a large part of the drama did really get to me. The fact that it took over half of the drama for me to really warm up to it definitely affected my overall enjoyment. But its excellent script, great production, and talented actors work together for a very unique experience that pulls you into the twisted world that is SKY Castle. (SKY Castle Review)

So how was May for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

I Hate You, Juliet just ended. Or maybe The Sound of Your Heart Reboot from the end of last year. Season 2 of A-Teen just started, but you may want to wait on that to binge it 🙂

I didn’t like I hate you juliet when I started it in April so don’t want to resume dramas that were on hold. I will check if TSOYH reboot is available to watch. And I haven’t watched A teen season 1 too. Thank you so much.

You’re welcome 🙂 Yeah, definitely try the first season of A-Teen. Did you watch the first season of Sound of Your Heart? It’s a very ridiculous comedy style, but I thought it was fun. It’s on Netflix in several countries 🙂

Yes, I have watched first season for Lee Kwang Soo. I didn’t enjoy it fully but it was okay.

Ah, well at least you know what to expect in terms of comedy style. I tend to prefer Lee Kwang Soo when it comes to comedy though. If you do watch it, good luck with the second season 🙂

I really need to start He is Psychometric, soon. I’ve been hearing so many good things about it.

As far as SKY Castle, this is a hard pass for me. The concept doesn’t really appeal to me and I think I would feel really frustrated if the story was not that great until the last leg of the drama. Maybe one day I’ll give it a try and see what I’m missing.

I have not seen the first Eulachacha Waikiki, but I’ll have to add it to my list. I know how rare sequels are in k-dramas and how even more rare great sequels are.

May has been slow for me. I have been watching Her Private Life and plan to start Angel’s Last Mission: Love. I’ve also been watching Absolute Boyfriend.

It’s a really solid drama if you like the mystery/crime romance genre 🙂 And I understand what you mean about SKY Castle. I didn’t love the premise and style, and it took so long for it to get really good. Maybe just save it for a rainy day when you have nothing else to watch (does that ever actually happen in Dramaland though? lol 😉 )

Oh you should definitely give the first season of Eulachacha Waikiki a look. You’re enjoyment will likely depend on if you like the comedy style though (stupid & over-the-top). It’s a very taste dependent drama. But if you go for the style, it’s hilarious and very heartwarming.

Ooh, I just have a few eps left of Her Private Life and have been really enjoying it. Also can’t wait to start Absolute Boyfriend and Angel’s Last Mission: Love too 🙂

Thanks Kay. The only drama I completed this month was Radiant and what a wonderful drama that one was. It’s official- I love Han Ji Min. I definitely have to watch her next drama now. 😀

I’m almost there with He is Psychometric but since it’s incomplete I can’t add it to this month.

I’m waiting for your thoughts on Her Private Life before I start it. Any thoughts so far?

Btw, I love your new recommendations page. Thank you.

I love Han Ji Min too! Saw her early in my drama watching in Rooftop Prince and liked her ever since. I plan to eventually check out Radiant. I’ll definitely have to prepare myself and be in the right mood though.

Is He is Psychometric going well for you? I really enjoyed it 🙂

You should check out Her Private Life. I’m going to finish it today, and it has been really good. It has a surprisingly good story for a rom-com, and Park Min Young and Kim Jae Wook have some amazing chemistry. Hopefully, I’ll have a review ready next week.

And thanks for saying that! I’m glad you like the recommendation page 🙂

So for my May this year, had finished three dramas:

First was Memories of the Alhambra (6/10). Unfortunately, it didn’t go well for me, and that I almost dropped it, but Hyun Bin oppa told me to stay. 😀
Second was the ever-funny, ever-heartfelt, ever-crazy, ever amazing second season of Eulachacha Waikiki (9.5/10). Though I love the first season a little bit more. Hehehe. And here’s hoping for an amazing third season, pleaseeee… :)))
And lastly, was my like-and-hate experience with Time (6.5/10). It could have been better. I really thought that drama had so much more to give, yet it didn’t. I was having Ji Sung’s Secret (9.5/10) vibe in the beginning of the drama, but it’s quite lacking.

And so …. that was it.
And good luck to me and to everyone this June!

Aww, too bad Memories didn’t completely click with you. That was one I enjoyed quite a bit. And I knew you loved Waikiki like I did. So much fun! I’ll probably check out Time at some point, but not likely very soon. Yes! Good luck in June! 🙂
