Luther Korean Drama - Shin Ha Kyun

An offer is out to Shin Ha Kyun (Pied Piper) to star in the new MBC drama Luther. Luther is a crime drama that is a remake of the British series of the same name about a detective who is tormented by the crimes he solves.

The remakes just keep coming! It sounds like Shin Ha Kyun would be a solid choice to headline this drama. So we will see how it plays out and what other actors are up to join him.

Luther is looking to air in late 2018 on MBC.

Hmm…I don’t know if this is such a good idea if I am being honest. I don’t know if you have ever watched Luther (if you haven’t you should, it’s brilliant), but that series is just one thing: Idris Elba being awesome in his role. Which is why I don’t think this will work. But…I’m always open for anything so who knows, maybe we will be pleasantly surprised 😊

I haven’t seen the original mostly because of the crime genre. Have heard lots of good things though. I think so much of it just comes down to execution with these remakes. Most don’t do so well. But another beloved series, Life on Mars, had a lot of people worried about remaking it, but it has ended up being very well received because they did so well with the cast and overall direction. Shin Ha Kyun is known for being very good, but of course I have no basis for comparison with the original. I think it would mostly come down to the writing and production since he would surely do well and make the character his own 🙂

Hmmm…remakes can certainly work, no argument from me there. But I do have to say that a show that is really carried by an actor usually is very hard to remake. In this case Luther played by Idris Elba simply is that character: he is so good in that role, and part of the reason why it’s such an awesome show. But…I always trust your judgement as you know, so I will still look forward to this one, and hope it is going to be good 😀

Oh yes, it can certainly be difficult when an actor really embodies the character and the show. It makes it that much harder to make it work. I also think the Suits remake was pretty well received, and I know that had some iconic characters. I’ll be interested to see the overall reaction to this remake. Not sure yet if I’ll watch it since I’m particular with my crime dramas, but I will definitely be following it 🙂

Well…I will too, if only to see how another actor is going to carry the role (and as Luther was very dark, this probably will become pretty dark as well 😊).
