Hwayugi Korean Drama - Lee Seung Gi, Oh Yeon Seo, Cha Seung Won

The upcoming Hong sisters drama Hwayugi (also known as A Korean Odyssey) starring Lee Seung Gi (You’re All Surrounded), Oh Yeon  Seo (My Sassy Girl), and Cha Seung Won (Hawjung) is all set to premiere this weekend! I’m more than ready for this drama and absolutely can’t wait to see Lee Seung Gi back on my screen!

They have also released a 4 minute long preview trailer to really get us excited. There’s a whole lot going on in it as we meet the main characters and many of the supporting ones and get an idea of some of the story. As described, there’s a mix of horror, comedy, and drama throughout. It really looks like it’s going to be a wild ride, so be sure to check it out!

Hwayugi is a romantic comedy horror loosely based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West about the journey of a monk and four others to atone for their sins. The drama moves the story to the modern day where the trouble making Monkey King (Lee Seung Gi) is exiled to the human world without his powers because of his corruption. He seeks to restore them with the help of a wealthy realtor (Oh Yeon Seo) descended from monks who can unseal them. The two then work to battle evil spirits together.

Hwayugi is scheduled to premiere December 23 on tvN.

Is it me, or has this trailer a bit of the same vibe as Goblin (which of course is a good thing 😊). This really looks pretty good I must say, no, let me rephrase that, this looks very good. This might definitely turn into a very amusing and fun series 😊

It does a little bit. I’ve seen several people comparing the two. I think some of the fantasy elements may be similar, but it will probably have a completely different feel and tone. I know the writers have very different styles particularly when it comes to humor. But either way, I’m excited! It really does look good, and I’m more than ready to check it out 🙂

I must be the only not liking the premise so far for this one. I will have to wait and see how it turns out. I’m a big fan of Lee Seung Gi but I really don’t like Cha Seung Won so for me to watch it, it has to be really good. 😀

I do think the premise is a bit unusual and sort of all over the place, lol. But I think it’s intriguing and I like fantasy stories a lot. Plus I’m a die hard Lee Seung Gi fan and have had mostly good luck with Hong sisters dramas. But luckily, you can always just wait and see what some of the fan reactions are before you decide if you want to invest your time in it 🙂

I hope it would not turn out like Bride of the Water God.

I hope it turns out way better too!
