Lee Hong Ki is Latest to Be Offered Role in Korean Drama Hwayugi

Hwayugi Korean Drama - Lee Hong Ki

Man, this drama is really trying to deliver on the cast! We now have Lee Hong Ki (Modern Farmer) being offered a role in the upcoming Hong sisters drama Hwayugi. He would play a popular star who has the ability to seduce all women. But his character will experience growth on his journey with the hero and heroine. I can already picture the hilarious encounters between Lee Hong Ki and Lee Seung Gi!

With Cha Seung Won (The Greatest Love), Lee Seung Gi (You’re All Surrounded), and now Lee Hong Ki all entertaining offers, this is like a big Hong sisters drama reunion! And Oh Yeon Seo (My Sassy Girl) is also still considering starring. What a terrific group!

I’ve been on board with this drama since way back when Cha Seung Won was offered a role as the hero’s rival. Then add one of my favorite actors Lee Seung Gi and along with Oh Yeon Seo and Lee Hong Ki, and well, I’m just plain excited! Now if we could just get this whole group to confirm, we’ll really be set for a good time!

Hwayugi is a romantic comedy horror loosely based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West about the journey of a monk and four others to atone for their sins. The drama moves the story to the modern day where Lee Seung Gi would play the character based off of the trouble making Monkey King who was exiled to the human world without his powers because of his corruption. He seeks to restore them with the help of a woman (Oh Yeon Seo) descended from monks who can unseal them. The two then work to battle evil spirits together.

Hwayugi is looking to air in December on tvN.

Well dang. With this cast, it being on tvn, and with the Hong Sisters behind it… I can’t see how this could possibly fail. Will be looking forward to any follow up news.

This is one of those dramas that seems to get better and better with each additional casting announcement. Seriously, what a group here! I just hope they’ve all been holding off so they can all confirm in one swoop. Then I’ll be a happy camper 🙂

With Lee seung gi and Cha Seung Won alone. This show will not fail * in terms of TV RATINGS. both of them have history of successful dramas. Seung gi’s drama never drop to a single digit in ratings. Now it’s up to the writers if they will produce a good script and story line .

Of course, this one will be on cable, so the ratings will be lower in general, but that doesn’t mean it won’t achieve solid cable ratings. I’m hopeful Lee Seung Gi and Cha Seung Won will help with that. And yes, they pick good projects. The Hong sisters have struggled a bit with their recent dramas, but we know they have the ability to produce wonderful stories. Hopefully, the reunions with all of these cast members will be just what they need 🙂
