My Secret Romance Korean Drama - Sung Hoon and Song Ji Eun

A new month is here, and that means we have several new dramas to check out! Here is the April 2017 edition of “Korean Dramas You Need to Be Watching.”  This monthly series is meant to keep you updated on what’s happening in the world of Korean dramas so that you don’t miss out on anything!

Here are the kdramas you need to keep an eye out for in April 2017:

My Pick:

1. Chicago Typewriter

Chicago Typewriter Korean Drama - Yoo Ah In, Im Soo Jung, Go Kyung Pyo

This drama looks like it is going to very fun. It has an intriguing premise involving two timelines with one of them being in one of my favorite eras, the 1930’s. There is also a batch of interesting characters that should make for some fun interactions.

Chicago Typewriter follows the modern day story of a bestselling writer (Yoo Ah In), a ghostwriter (Go Kyung Pyo), and an anti-fan (Im Soo Jung) who are reincarnations of writers from the 1930’s during the Japanese occupation.

Chicago Typewriter is scheduled to premiere April 7 on tvN.


2. Man to Man

Man to Man Korean Drama - Park Hae Jin

Man to Man tells the story of a mysterious and skilled bodyguard (Park Hae Jin) to a top star (Park Sung Woong) who has made a name for himself playing villainous characters. The star is well-loved by the public, but he is hiding a terrible secret.

Man to Man is scheduled to premiere April 21 on JTBC.

3. My Secret Romance

My Secret Romance Korean Drama - Sung Hoon and Song Ji Eun

My Secret Romance is about a man and woman who have a one night stand and then meet again several years later working at the same company. Sung Hoon plays the cold chaebol with Song Ji Eun as a nutritionist.

My Secret Romance is scheduled to premiere April 17 on OCN.

4. Mystery Queen

Mystery Queen Korean Drama - Kwon Sang Woo and Choi Kang Hee 2

Mystery Queen is about a married woman (Choi Kang Hee) who loves mystery novels and dreams of becoming a cop that ends up working with a detective (Kwon Sang Woo) to solve cases.

Mystery Queen is scheduled to premiere April 5 on KBS.


5. The Liar and His Lover

The Liar and His Lover Korean Drama - Lee Hyun Woo and Joy

The Liar and His Lover is about the romance between a genius sound producer (Lee Hyun Woo) living under a hidden identity and a high school girl (Joy) with a beautiful voice who falls for him at first sight.

The Liar and His Lover airs Monday and Tuesday on tvN.

6. Radiant Office

Radiant Office Korean Drama - Ha Suk Jin and Go Ah Sung

Radiant Office is a slice of life story about a marketing director (Ha Suk Jin) and a rookie (Go Ah Sung) working at a furniture company. After a failed suicide attempt by the rookie, she discovers she may be terminally ill and decides to live life to the fullest.

Radiant Office airs Wednesday and Thursday on MBC.

7. Tunnel

Tunnel Korean Drama - Choi Jin Hyuk

Tunnel is about a violent crimes detective from the past that travels through time to the present day. Choi Jin Hyuk plays a detective from the 1980’s who was trying to catch a killer when he time travels through a tunnel to present day Seoul. He partners with Yoon Hyun Min who has a sharp intellect and is very skilled at his job.

Tunnel airs Saturday and Sunday on OCN.

8. Whisper

Whisper Korean Drama - Lee Sang Yoon and Lee Bo Young

Whisper is a suspense melodrama centered around cops and lawyers and a huge corruption scandal.  Lee Sang Yoon plays a smart and kind judge with Lee Bo Young as a police detective.

Whisper airs Monday and Tuesday on SBS.

9. Saimdang Light’s Diary

Saimdang Light's Diary Herstory Korean Drama - Lee Young Ae

Saimdang Light’s Diary is about an art history lecturer (Lee Young Ae) who finds the diary of the famous historical figure Shim Saimdang and works to discover the secret behind a mysterious portrait.

Saimdang, Light’s Diary airs Wednesday and Thursday on SBS.

10. Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People

Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People Korean Drama - Yoon Kyun Sang

Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People is based on the classic Korean folktale about a man born of illegitimate birth who steals from the rich to give to the poor and becomes a revolutionary activist in Joseon. It stars Yoon Kyun Sang and Chae Soo Bin.

Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People airs Monday and Tuesday on MBC.


Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Strong Woman Do Bong Soo Korean Drama - Park Hyung Shik, Park Bo Young, and Ji Soo

Strong Woman Bo Dong Soon is about a woman with super strength (Park Bo Young) who becomes the bodyguard to an eccentric chaebol heir (Park Hyung Shik), and the two become involved in a crazy romance. Also staring Ji Soo.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon airs Friday and Saturday on JTBC.

Perfect Wife

Perfect Wife Korean Drama - Go So Young

Perfect Wife is about a family woman (Go So Young) who has been through many difficulties in life. Unexpected circumstances give her the chance to heal and rediscover her femininity. Also starring Yoon Sang Hyun.

Perfect Wife airs Monday and Tuesday on KBS.

I’m definitely looking forward to Chicago Typewriter as well as hoping for a fun romance in My Secret Romance and a little spy action in Man to Man. I need to up my drama watching to get all of these in so I can be ready for the plethora of dramas heading our way in May!

    Great overview, and pretty much every drama on this list is one that I need to watch. (Yes I NEED to watch them lol). I am especially looking forward to Tunnel and Whisper. The last one looks seriously awesome, as the trailers for it are truly intense. Great post! 😊

      Yes you do need to watch them! Get that drama marathon going, lol. Are Tunnel and Whisper available for you? For me, Tunnel is on DramaFever and Whisper is on Viki.

        Unfortunately both shows are not available here 🙁 But, there is good news luckily as well: I can watch missing nine😀 It has been added to Dramafever, and it is available in my region 😀😀

          Yep, definitely the one I’m most excited about. The cast is great, plus it comes from the Kill Me Heal Me writer which is one of my all time favorite dramas. So I’m definitely crossing my fingers for a fun one!
