Jealousy Incarnate (also called Don’t Dare to Dream) is a romantic comedy involving relationships at a broadcast news station. Jo Jung Suk plays a macho star reporter with looks and brains with Gong Hyo Jin as a poor, temporary weather girl with a strong personality. The two will face competition and jealousy on their journey to love.
Episode 1
The first episode of Jealousy Incarnate introduces us to our main characters. We see Pyo Na Ri (Gong Hyo Jin) longing to be more than a weather girl and get a look into what led up to her getting her job.
She then heads off to Thailand with the SBC news team. She meets the handsome and charming Ko Jung Won (Go Kyung Pyo) on the plane and is immediately captivated by him.
In Thailand, she meets up with reporter Lee Hwa Shin (Jo Jung Suk) who has a cold and macho personality. We learn that the two have a history together as she apparently used to like him. The two seem to have a strained relationship with Hwa Shin being somewhat annoyed with her.
Na Ri ends up accidentally touching Hwa Shin’s chest where she feels something suspicious. After several comical attempts to feel his chest throughout the episode, she finally tells him she thinks it may be breast cancer.
I thought the first episode was decent. It was a little all over the place for me though with some scenes feeling out of place. I also tend to prefer the more classic rom-com set-up of the main couple meeting for the first time rather than having a history. That’s a minor thing though.
I’m not loving the possible cancer introduction and really hope it doesn’t end up greatly affecting the story.
But there were some nice laughs with everyone fitting well into their character. Gong Hyo Jin is her usual sweet and quirky self with Jo Jung Suk easily fitting into the role of the cold male lead. I look forward to seeing more of Go Kyung Pyo as I’m already liking him. I’m definitely not wowed with the episode, but we’ll see how the next one goes.
So what did you think of the first episode of Jealousy Incarnate?
