My Dearest Nemesis is about two students who connected playing an online game in the early 2000’s, but their relationship ended badly. They eventually go on to meet later in real life as a director (Choi Hyun Wook) hiding his more youthful entertainment interests and an employee (Moon Ga Young) known for getting directors fired.

Choi Hyun Wook plays Ban Ju Yeon who is the heir to a wealthy corporation. After tragically losing his parents as a child, he has lived a lonely life striving to live up to his harsh grandmother’s expectations and has been forced to hide his entertainment interests such as music, books, and games.

Moon Ga Young is Baek Su Jeong. After losing her mother and then being humiliated by Ju Yeon lying to her when they were younger, she has only relied on herself. Her observational skills at work, soon have her realizing the new director may be hiding a big secret.

We also have Kim Sin Won (Kwak Shi Yang) and Seo Ha Jin (Im Se Mi) as the best friends of Ju Yeon and Su Jeong who eventually find themselves developing feelings for each other. They have their own little story with issues to overcome for them to find happiness together.

My Dearest Nemesis was such a cute and fun drama! It’s a fairly straightforward office romantic comedy with relationship issues and a family villain that creates tension, but it executes everything so well that it was thoroughly enjoyable. The first episode quickly drew me in with the online relationship between Ju Yeon and Su Jeong which led to some touching moments as well as some hilarious ones.

I loved the humor in this series. I’m fairly particular when it comes to comedy, but this show had just the right style of quirky and fun that worked for me. I got such a kick out of Ju Yeon’s secret identity as well as all of his quirky mannerisms.

The romance between Ju Yeon and Su Jeong was very fun. Following the initial misunderstanding in the past, the pair doesn’t recognize each other in the present. They still start off in classic bickering fashion though. But Su Jeong’s curiosity towards Ju Yeon leads to a connection between the pair as they slowly let down their walls.
Then we get a sweet romance between them. But of course, there’s still the issue of them not knowing their connection from the past which definitely threatens their relationship.

They also each go on a touching individual journeys. Ju Yeon has issues stemming from guilt and keeping his true self a secret. Then Su Jeong has deep trust issues that have led to her feeling like she always has to rely on just herself. I liked seeing them each begin to face these issues and grow from them together.

The show has one main villain which is Ju Yeon’s grandma, Jung Hyo Seon (Ban Hyo Jung). She harbors a lot of resentment towards Ju Yeon for the death of his parents which she very much takes out on him. He struggles to live up to her standards, and she is the reason that he has to hide his passions and true self. And let me tell you, she is downright awful! She’s a villain that is very easy to hate.

My Dearest Nemesis was such a great watch. Twelve episodes was a nice length for the drama which allowed for consistent plot developments and a good pace. The characters are a lot of fun delivering plenty of humor and quirkiness. The drama also has lots of heart. It’s an easy watch that’s mostly light with just a dash of angst. Overall, I had a lovely time with this one.
My Rating: 8/10
