Undercover High School is a comedy action romance about a NIS agent (Seo Kang Joon) who goes undercover as a high school student and ends up bonding with the other students and his teacher (Jin Ki Joo).

Seo Kang Joon plays Jung Hae Seong. He is an NIS agent who gets in trouble and is forced to take on a mission where he has to go undercover as a high school student at an elite high school to track down a stash of gold bars. He soon finds himself getting mixed up with his teacher.

Jin Ki Joo is O Su Ah. She is a contract teacher hoping to become full time. She soon becomes suspicious of new student Hae Seong.

We then have Kim Shin Rok as our villain, Seo Myung Ju. She is a powerful person at the high school with dark motives. She wields immense power with grand plans to shape the future of Korea how she sees fit. She’s quite intimidating with a personality that’s part scary and part crazy.

Undercover High School was a fun drama. It’s a mixture of genres with action, humor, mystery, and romance. It really was a little bit of everything, and that always kept things interesting. The pacing was pretty good all the way through with a decent story that had consistent new developments.
There’s also some mystery involving the gold name is trying to track down at the school as well as what happened to his father who disappeared many years ago when he was looking for the gold. There is definitely some illogical happenings and convenient plot devices, but if you can just roll with it, it’s a good time.

A lot of the fun centers around Hae Seong being an agent having to go back to high school and all that entails. We see him deal with teachers, have to get good grades, and take on bullies. He develops heartfelt relationships with the other students too.

We get a lot of comedy from Hae Seong’s NIS team consisting of Seok Ho (Jeon Bae Soo), Yeong Hun (Jo Bok Rae), and Mi Jeong (Yoon Ga Yi). They were set up nearby to give him support when needed. They got into plenty of comical situations.

We also get a slow burn romance between Hae Seong and Su Ah. Because Su Ah is Hae Seong’s teacher, at first their dynamic is that of a teacher and student. But she does start to suspect something is off about him. SPOILER: After she finds out he’s an adult and an NIS agent, she joins the team and they begin to work together. During their entertaining missions, a little romance blossoms along the way. END OF SPOILER

Undercover High School was pretty enjoyable overall. I liked the mixture of genres along with story. Nothing gets too crazy, but it delivers an entertaining experience with fun characters, humor, action, romance, a dash of mystery, and spy shenanigans. It was a good ride.
My Rating: 7.5/10
