I only got in two dramas again for August, and they were okay watches.  It was the romantic comedy Backstreet Rookie and the comedy sitcom So Not Worth It that I watched this month:

Backstreet Rookie

Backstreet Rookie is a light and fluffy romantic comedy. Not a whole lot happens, but we do get several relationship journeys in the midst of the comedy. This drama really took some serious warming up to for me, but it did grow on me. Overall, it was an okay watch.

Our main couple didn’t get to really start their relationship until way too deep into the drama for my liking though. That coupled with the unengaging start, thin plot, and not particularly likable supporting characters just never allowed me to love the drama. But it is cute enough, and Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung played their roles well. It’s a good fit if you just want something easy and fun. (Backstreet Rookie Review)

So Not Worth It Korean Drama - Shin Hyun Seung, Park Se Wan, Han Hyun Min, Minnie, Choi Young Jae, Carson Allen, Terris Brown, JoakimSo Not Worth It

So Not Worth It is a sitcom that is a quick and easy watch with only 12 half hour episodes. This series is very light and is primarily a comedy as we see a group of international students get involved in a variety of crazy and troublesome situations that have humorous results. Most of the comedy wasn’t really to my tastes, but it did have moments that I found funny.

Since a good chunk of the humor wasn’t to my tastes, the situational nature of the show did make it feel draggy for me despite my like for the characters and the cute little romance. I think if you like the comedy style though, this could be a great and unique show for you because it has such a light and fun feel to it. (So Not Worth It Review)

So how was August for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

Backstreet Rookie is in my list. I think I’ll save it for when I need/want a nice, light drama to watch.

It definitely works if you want something light and not too serious 🙂

Lo and behold, I actually managed to watch one whole drama! It was Run On, which I really liked. I know that some viewers had problems with the characters, but I loved all of them. The quirky made me think of jdramas.

Yay! I’m glad you found a drama you liked all of the way through 🙂 I too enjoyed Run On which was a very pleasant surprise since it is definitely not in my preferred genre. Like you, I actually quite liked the characters and their quirky charm 🙂

    Completed dramas in August 2021:

Racket Boys – a delightful slice of life/coming of age drama. The storytelling could use some more structure, but the actors were great. The perfect happy pill for the summer.

You Are My Spring – I liked the main couple, but thought that the writer’s attempt to mix healing romance with murder mystery did not go too well. Excellent cinematography and directing.

Racket Boys sounds like one I might check out. Happy pill sounds appealing 🙂 Glad you enjoyed it. Too bad You Are My Spring wasn’t the best though.

I’m quite late for the monthly update, but here it goes!

    “My KDramatic August 2021”
    (World of Romantic Fantasies)

After few months of kdrama hiatus, finally lifted it up this August. I invested three fantasies this lovely month.

    DOOM AT YOUR SERVICE (6.5/10)
It was fun at first. But had been soo draggy after few episodes. Hoped the drama to get better after few episodes, but didn’t. I didn’t feel enough sympathy towards our poignant but hopeful lead couple. I thought tho that Park Bo Young (the main reason why I watched this 😍) and Seo In Guk were very good in portraying their roles. It’s just that the characters aren’t very memorable to me. Other casts and characters were okay, although I really didn’t care much for them.
    Overall, Doom wasn’t very engaging.

MY ROOMMATE IS A GUMIHO (8.5/10)
I pretty enjoyed My Roommate is a Gumiho. 😍 Hyeri is one of the actresses I’ve been following since her Reply 1988. And she’s always great in her role. Lee Dam is a no exemption. She’s perfectly cast!
Jang Ki Yong’s Shim Woo Yeo is also very memorable. I can now see why many fans are dying for Jang Ki Yong. He’s such one great and HOT gumiho, I mean actor. 😂
Other casts are also great. Even Kang Ha Na’s comedic timing is quite fun.
I can see some vibes of Waikiki in the drama’s comedy. 😊
Despite the drama being soo tropy, I enjoyed its clicheness because of how good they executed it.

    LOVE ALARM SEASON 2 (7.5/10)
    (with MAJOR SPOILER)
Well, this is the part 2 that we all deserve. (Well I guess not all though 😂). While everyone else is busy rooting for Sun Oh, I was happily hoping Kim Jojo to end up with Hye Young. I don’t have hard feelings for Sun Oh though. In fact, in season 1 I thought Sun Oh and Jojo were cute and romantic together. However I believed Jojo MUST choose Hye Young. That more fits and more aligned with the drama’s essense. Well you definitely have to watch it to see what I mean. 😊
Other characters were also very good. I didn’t have extraordinary feels to it, but Love Alarm is just simply unique in its own way.

It’ never too late! hehe 😂😂 Looks like you had a decent month.

Too bad Doom wasn’t more engaging for you, but at least okay.

I too quite enjoyed My Roommate is a Gumiho. Very fun all around.

I didn’t read your Love Alarm notes since I still need to see it, but looks like you liked it well enough with the 7.5 🙂
