As we make our way into August, we have a few more kdramas to choose from to round out our watch lists.  Let’s see what we have to look forward to in this August 2021 edition of “Korean Dramas You Need to Be Watching.”

1. Lovers of the Red Sky

Hong Chun Gi Korean Drama - Ahn Hyo Seop and Kim Yoo Jung

Lovers of the Red Sky is a fantasy romance about the relationship between Joseon’s only female painter (Kim Yoo Jung) and a blind astrologer (Ahn Hyo Seop).

Lovers of the Red Sky is scheduled to premiere in August on SBS.

PREMIERING IN AUGUST:

2. Police University

Police University Korean Drama - Jung Jin Young and Krystal

Police University is about a former computer hacker (Jung Jin Young) who becomes a student at a police academy and teams up with a professor (Cha Tae Hyun) and another student (Krystal) to solve a crime.

Police University is scheduled to premiere August 9 on KBS.

3. The Road: Tragedy of One

The Road: Tragedy of One Korean Drama - Ji Jin Hee

The Road: Tragedy of One is about a terrible incident that happens at the residence of the top one percent of society with the focus on a trusted news anchor (Ji Jin Hee) and his wife (Yoon Se Ah).

The Road: Tragedy of One is scheduled to premiere August 4 on tvN.

4. Hometown Cha Cha Cha

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha Korean Drama - Kim Sun Ho and Shin Min Ah

Hometown Cha Cha Cha is a romantic about a mysterious man (Kim Sun Ho) who takes odd jobs around town and a dentist (Shin Min Ah) who opens a small town clinic.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha is scheduled to premiere August 28 on tvN.

5. D.P.

D.P. is about a soldier (Jung Hae In) that becomes part of a squad whose job is to locate and catch military deserters, but he comes to sympathize with their struggles.

D.P. is scheduled to premiere August 27 on Netflix.

6. The Devil Judge

The Devil Judge Korean Drama - Ji Sung

The Devil Judge is set in a dystopian Korea and is about a chief judge (Ji Sung) who doesn’t believe justice actually exists and makes a big spectacle of doling out punishment in court in front of the country. An assistant judge (Jinyoung) starts to question his motives and tries to find the truth.

The Devil Judge airs Saturday and Sunday on tvN.

7. The Penthouse 3

Penthouse Korean Drama - Eugene, Lee Ji Ah, Uhm Ki Joon, Kim So Yeon

The Penthouse 3 is about a woman’s (Eugene) ambitious goal to rise into high society through the real estate business, and she will do anything to succeed, even if she becomes a monster along the way.

The Penthouse 3 airs Friday on SBS.

8. Hospital Playlist 2

Hospital Playlist 2 Korean Drama - Jung Kyung Ho, Jo Jung Suk, Yoo Yeon Seok, Kim Day Myung

Hospital Playlist 2 follows the lives and struggles of doctors, nurses, and patients in a hospital. Starring Jung Kyung Ho, Jo Jung Suk, Yoo Yeon Seok, Jeon Mi Do, & Kim Dae Myung.

Hospital Playlist 2 airs Thursday on tvN.

9. You Are My Spring

You Are My Spring Korean Drama - Kim Dong Wook and Seo Hyun Jin

You Are My Spring is a healing romance about a hotel concierge manager (Seo Hyun Jin) and a psychiatrist (Kim Dong Wook) who live in the same apartment building where a murder happens.

You Are My Spring airs Monday and Tuesday on tvN.

10. The Witch’s Diner

The Witch's Diner Korean Drama - Song Ji Hyo

The Witch’s Diner is about a mysterious witch (Song Ji Hyo) that grants people’s wishes, but at a cost. She runs a diner along with a business partner (Nam Ji Hyun) and a part-time worker (Chae Jong Hyeop).

The Witch’s Diner airs Friday on TVING.

Monthly Magazine Home airs Wednesday and Thursday on JTBC.

Nevertheless

Nevertheless Korean Drama - Song Kang and Han So Hee

Nevertheless is a romance about a man (Song Kang) who doesn’t want to be in a relationship but likes to flirt and a woman (Han So Hee) that doesn’t believe in love yet still wants to be in a relationship.

Nevertheless airs Saturday on JTBC.

On the Verge of Insanity

On the Verge of Insanity Korean Drama - Jung Jae Young and Moon So Ri

On the Verge of Insanity is about a veteran electronics (Jung Jae Young) engineer who is forced to transfer to the personnel department to avoid losing his job. He does his best to survive there alongside the workaholic leader (Moon So Ri) of the department.

On the Verge of Insanity airs Wednesday and Thursday on MBC.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) 2

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) Korean Drama - Sung Hoon and Lee Ga Ryeung

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) 2 is about three women in their 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s (Lee Ga Ryeong, Park Joo Mi, Jeon Soo Kyung) who face difficult times alongside their husbands.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) 2 airs Saturday and Sunday on TV Chosun.

    Lovers of the Red Sky would be my pick too. Only it’s too early to tell yet. 🙂 Home Town Cha Cha sounds fun and I like the leads, so maybe that one too. We’ll see I guess.

    Lots of good dramas on this list but only You are my Spring and Hometown Cha Cha Cha are for me. The rest are not my genre.
