Run On Korean Drama - Im Siwan and Shin Se Kyung

Two more dramas are in for July!  One was just okay while the other was pretty nice and pleasant. It was the fantasy romance web drama Scripting Your Destiny and the slice of life romance Run On that I watched this month:

Scripting Your Destiny

I found Scripting Your Destiny to be an okay watch overall, but that’s about it. The pacing moves swiftly, and it has a pretty good little fantasy story that leans comedic but gets meatier towards the end. The production is decent, but some of the acting was a bit so-so.

It’s a simple and quick watch. I think it’s well done for a web drama, but it wasn’t very engaging me for me. If you like light fantasy romance on the humorous side, this could be a good fit for you. (Scripting Your Destiny Review)

Run On Korean Drama - Im Siwan and Shin Se KyungRun On

Run On is a slice of life romance with a very pleasant feel to it. It mostly focuses on the characters and their personal journeys as well as their romantic relationships. There is a sprinkling of dramatics throughout, but nothing to crazy. We spend a lot of time going in depth with two separate couples a they learn about each other.

Run On was a pretty solid show. I thought the first half was great and kept me very engaged. The second half did slow down some though. While it was definitely noticeable, I still found found the drama quite pleasant during this time. This isn’t a drama that feels grand, but it goes in depth with its characters, provides nice relationship journeys, and explores a variety of themes. So overall, I was mostly pleased with Run On. So how was July for you?

Happy drama watching to everyone!

    Kdrama update for July 2021

    Dramas finished:

Bossam: sageuk with a refreshingly old-fashioned vibe to it. Jung Il Woo is in top form. Kwon Yuri is excellent as Princess Soo Kyung, one of my favorite female characters so far.

Beyond Evil: well written and well acted crime drama which created a surprisingly warm sense of friendship and community despite the very dark tone and tragic events depicted.

Ongoing: Nirvana in Fire, You Are My Spring, Racket Boys, Hospital Playlist 2.

Sounds like a good month for you! Bossam and Beyond Evil are both on my watch list. I hope all of your ongoing dramas go great too 🙂

    Finished:

Bossam – One of the rare saeguks that I enjoyed. Liked the first half more than the second because they moved from regular life/comedy into the palace with all of the usual politics. The princess is my favorite character, her quiet strength and grace in the face of everything swirling around her is a joy to watch. There was a lot happening to hold my interest so a solid watch for me.

Imitation – Much better than I had expected. Better than Liar and his Lover. Thought they did a good job giving tribute to a serious issue in the kpop world. Only 12 episodes which made it move at a good pace, never slow or draggy.

At a Distance, Spring is Green – Phenomenal. I had no idea what this was when it popped up on Viki. I was floored from beginning to end with the heavy subject matters it dealt with in such a realistic and uplifting way. Also 12 eps but deserved to be 16 because there were some things that could have been explored further or I would have loved to see this gang 10 years in the future. It was a great cast with amazing stories.

My Roommate is a Gumiho – my favorite watch this month. Perfect rom com and added to my re-watch list. I have a soft spot for Jang Ki Yong so it was nice to see him in this role and I hope to see more of him but saw somewhere that he’s off to military service soon so will have to wait 😦 Hyeri was fantastic and the second leads were both from Start Up and I loved seeing them connect here. Chemistry was great with everyone.

    Dropped:

Nevertheless – 3 eps in and I just can’t keep watching. The eps are too long and draggy. I’m sure there’s a good story there and I love Song Kang but I haven’t been able to watch him in anything that I’ve loved yet 😦

    Watching:

The Best Hit and You Are My Spring – about 5 eps into both and loving them so far. Looking forward to reading your what to watch list for August, Kay, because I need few more to keep me busy 🙂

You’re so productive! 🙂 Bossam sounds like a great historical. Imitation sounds nice too. You’ve definitely piqued my interest for At a Distance Spring is Green. I’ll probably hold off a bit since it has some heavier stuff, but it looks like something I would really love.

Of course, My Roommate is a Gumiho is on my soon to watch list, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying The Best Hit. That was such a pleasant and feel good drama for me, and the fantasy touch really gave it the extra oomph I like 🙂 I hope you continue to like You Are My Spring too!

I think it was July when I finished Nirvana in Fire. Started with the rest of the peeps at kfangurls group watch but then just went on till the end, ha. It’s a very well constructed drama but I was not as enamoured with it as most seem to be. All the court intrigue just made my eyes glaze over. 😄

I also watched Imitation, which was better than I expected. Nothing groundbreaking but I enjoyed it. The feelgood ending was nice. Jun (the male lead) is growing as an actor, though the part did not demand all that much from him, he is an idol after all… but multitalented. Many people hadn’t realised he is an idol as UKiss ( his group) has been inactive in Korea for quite long, so they’ve only seen him in dramas.

I’m glad you at least liked it enough to finish it, hehe. I really want to see Nirvana in Fire. It’s talked about so much that I have to give it a try. I had heard about a fair amount of court/politic stuff though, so that would also be the thing that concerns me as my eyes usually glaze over with that too 😂

After hearing good things about Imitation, I do plan to check that one out on the sooner side. I have a soft spot for music themed dramas, and that one looks interesting. It’s great that you ended up enjoying it 🙂

NiF has many memorable characters and it’s really well acted. So it has quite a bit to offer as well. I think that kfangurl’s episode notes are a godsend for first time watchers. 🙂 Have to confess though, that I tended to FF over the “boring” bits, ha.

I will note that and be sure to check in with her notes whenever I do watch it then. I’ve struggled in the past with the more broad scope of Chinese historicals with so much information to take in, so I know would definitely benefit from her help, hehe. And maybe keep the FF button handy too 😂
