Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Kim Dong Wook and Moon Ga Young

Find Me in Your Memory is a romance drama about a news anchor (Kim Dong Wook) who has a condition which causes him to remember almost everything and an actress (Moon Ga Young) who has forgotten many things about her life that fall in love and heal each other’s hearts together.

Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Kim Dong Wook

Kim Dong Wook plays Lee Jung Hoon.  He’s a popular news anchor who suffers from hyperthymesia which causes him to remember everything that has ever happened in his life. This has been a heavy burden for him since he recalls traumatic events in vivid detail.

Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Moon Ga Young

Moon Ga Young is Yeo Ha Jin. She’s a rising actress with a bright personality. She doesn’t remember a large chunk of her life which leaves her with discomfort about what she is missing from her past.

Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Kim Seul Gi Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Yoon Jong Hoon

Kim Seul Gi is Ha Jin’s sister and manager Yeo Ha Kyung. She’s strong and determined and always does whatever she can to be there for Ha Jin and help her to be successful.

Then there’s Yoon Jong Hoon as Yoo Tae Eun. He’s Jung Hoon’s friend and a neurologist that is as nice as can be, but he struggles to live up to his father’s expectations.

Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Kim Dong Wook and Moon Ga Young

I wasn’t originally planning to watch Find Me in Your Memory, but I kept hearing good things about it week after week, so I got curious. And I ended up loving it!

It has all of the ingredients I tend to like in a drama with a romance, a good back story that has lots of effects on the present happenings, a good mix of humor and serious, and some very engaging and emotional character journeys.

Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Kim Dong Wook and Moon Ga Young

Jung Hoon and Ha Jin have quite the emotional journey to go on. I found it really interesting how they each suffered from opposite issues concerning their memory with him being able to remember everything and her forgetting a huge chunk of her life, yet it still impacted them in similar ways.

The stage was set nicely for lots of difficult truths from the past to come out in the present. SPOILERS: It seemed so ironic that Jung Hoon was forced to vividly relive his first love dying while Ha Jin was so traumatized by it that she had blocked it out. END OF SPOILERS

Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Kim Dong Wook Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Moon Ga Young

And of course, a drama like this just wouldn’t be complete without a stalker in the mix. I quite enjoyed the side of thrills it added to things along with a mystery as to who Ha Jin’s stalker was. Another plus in this case was that the stalker story line was very relevant to the overall plot and was woven in nicely. I thought it was done well and worked as a great way to spice things up.

SPOILERS: It was hard to see that same stalker that ruined Jung Hoon’s life by murdering his fiance resurface and cause more heartache for him and Ha Jin. Although small things were beginning to trigger Ha Jin’s blocked out memories, the stalker ultimately brought them all back for her.

Ha Jin had to face some difficult truths, but that also finally allowed her to move through the pain of her past and find healing and acceptance with Jung Hoon. It was great to see. END OF SPOILERS

Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Moon Ga Young Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Kim Dong Wook

The romance itself was very well done with steady developments between Jung Hoon and Ha Jin. I loved seeing this couple grow closer and be there for each other. Their relationship was very solid while also having quite a few very sweet moments.

Kim Dong Wook and Moon Ga Young also had some really fantastic chemistry as well as such a naturalness and ease with each other. Their romance as a whole was very touching.

Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Moon Ga Young and Kim Seul Gi

This drama also features a fantastic sister relationship between Ha Jin and Ha Kyung. This pair was so supportive of each, and I loved seeing their strong bond. Aside from being there for one another, they also had a very fun relationship that brought a lot of smiles. It was very nice to see the connection between these two ladies.

Find Me in Your Memory Korean Drama - Kim Dong Wook and Moon Ga Young

Find Me in Your Memory really was such a nice surprise! I loved the whole feel of the drama with its melancholy atmosphere. It was a romance that had a mixture of melo, humor, and thrills that all came together very nicely. I’m so glad I took a chance on this one and was able to enjoy such a well done story.

My Rating: 8/10

That’s a very solid score!! 😀 I also put this on my list coz I kept hearing good things, but unlike you, I haven’t even managed to give a stab, just yet. 😅 Good to hear that you liked it so much – it just means I need to 1, keep it on my list, and 2, actually get around to watching it! 😆

A solid score indeed! It was very enjoyable 🙂 I love finding those little surprises when you weren’t planning to watch a drama, get curious and check it out, and then really like it.

And I completely know what you mean about keeping a drama on the list but then needing to actually get around to watching it! I have way to many dramas on my list to get them all in. It seems like I always just end up adding more rather than taking any away, hehe 🙂

Your review cleared up some plot points for me that were keeping me from watching this show. I interpreted the “memory loss” as early onset Alzheimers – that big drama favorite from a few years ago – and just said, “No, no, no!” I can deal with blocking off trauma though so I’m putting the show on my list. Thanks for diving in before the rest of us! I enjoy dramas set in the entertainment business so I’m particularly happy.

I thought that was the route they were going to go to when I first started watching it. I was like well, this is going to be sad! lol I really liked that they used the blocking trauma instead in this case as it completely tied into the overall story. I also like shows set in the entertainment business too, so that was definitely an added bonus 🙂

I finally finished A Piece of Your Mind and still working through I’ll Go to You When the Weather is Nice, King, Eternal Monarch, and Forest. Enjoying those that I’m watching now, but did not enjoy A Piece of Your Mind 😦 I was watching Mind and Weather in tandem until about ep 6 when Mind stagnated but Weather picked up so knowing that Mind shortened it’s run I went ahead and finished so I could enjoy Weather without the back/forth which worked. It took some time to get used to the pace but there’s more of a story there than there was with Mind. King is phenomenal, feels like what Crash Landing On You could have been but wasn’t. And Forest is just cute and traditional, I’m only about a third of the way through that one but enjoying so far. What’s next for you?

You’ve been busy! I’m definitely worried about how I’ll feel about I’ll Go to You When the Weather is Nice and A Piece of Your Mind. When I do feel in the mood, I’ll try Weather first since it sounds more promising.

So how much doctoring is there in Forest? That’s the only thing holding me back from that one.

I’m almost done with 365: Repeat the Year, and it has been a solid mystery thriller that has kept me interested all the way through 🙂

I’m actually going to be starting The King: Eternal Monarch tonight! I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying that one because I’ve been so excited for it. I’m trying to keep my expectations in check, but I’m really hoping it’s a great ride for me 🙂

Well, I finally finished this one and really wanted to love it but ended up just wanting it to be over. I thought the overall cast was strong but Moon Ga Young was not the right person for that role .She was just too young to play against Kim Dong Wook. I love her as an actress but just not in this role. She felt too immature at times and they just didn’t fit. I thought the 1st half of the story was good with all of the pieces but the second half was just a hodge podge of scenarios meant to make their lives more difficult with the inevitable kdrama trope at the end. They did so well up to that point to avoid typical kdrama tropes so didn’t like that they threw that particular one in at the end. I thought it was promising but could have been better.

Aww, that’s too bad that this one didn’t work out for you 😦 I’m in the camp that loved both Moon Ga Young and Kim Dong Wook in their individual roles as well as thought they had some sizzling chemistry as a couple. I got carried away with the melo romance/thriller combo too. It’s always interesting how differently people experience dramas sometimes 🙂

Hi Kay, this is first time I leave comment here. I also watched this unplanned but it turns out to be that good. The story is solid, supporting cast are excellent & not being too much, and main leads surely had that chemistry. I wonder why this drama is quite under the radar though?

I agree, everything about it was so well put together with the cast, production, and story. It is surprising that it was such an under the radar drama when it was so well done.

    My K-Dramatic Review on
    “Find Me in Your Memory”

Find Me in Your Memory revolves the story of a news anchor man who has hyperthymesia, a mental condition where he remembers every single detail of his life, and a famous actress who couldn’t remember a big portion of her life.
Well, I mostly enjoy dramas with opposite conditions of the leads. So I tuned in on this one, apart from the many good things I’ve read about the drama on the famous kdrama blogs I frequented.
Kim Dong Wook did a pretty good job as Anchor Lee Jeong Hoon, our saddening male lead, who couldn’t move on with his first love’s death. Not to offend him, but I kept on thinking of Park Yoo Chun while watching him. He looked like him a lot. (Or might be I’m just missing Yoo Chun oppa so so much. 😭)
Moon Ga Young as the rising actress, Yeo Ha Jin, did really good to portraying her character, along with Kim Dong Wook. Though she’s way newer and younger than the male lead, but their chemistry was there – the main reason also why I stayed and hanged on watching this drama.
Several supporting characters also caught my attention. Primarily with Director Choi and her husband News Live Director Kim who both worked with Jeong Hoon in the news station. This couple just looked so natural, that I surprisingly enjoyed watching them together.
Yeo Ha Kyung (played by Kim Seul Gi), Ha Jin’s younger sister, also really shined from the middle part. I honestly did not care about her on the first few episodes of the drama. It bothered me that she’s only living for Ha Jin, and not even care for herself. But along the way, as sad past unfolds, I somehow understood why Ha Kyung was being too protective of her older sister, to the extent that she’s more like a stage mother than a younger sister to her.
(MINOR SPOILER ALERT) And when she started living her own life too and even started dating Jo Il Kwon, Lee Jeong Hoon’s colleague, that made me root for her too and her own happiness, rather than just staying by her sister’s side. (SPOILER ENDS) Well I know that the drama was trying to show us a healthy sisterhood, but realistically speaking, Ha Kyung too has her own life to live. And I could also see that Ha Jin was being inconsiderate towards her sister.
So while the drama offered me a bit of everything I could really enjoy – romance, comedy, thriller and melo – it didn’t really win me over. At first I enjoyed its first two episodes on being its typical romance with bits of funny moments. I even wished that the drama just sticked to that. But along the way, I honestly didn’t know which parts of it to like. (I really wanted to ‘really’ like it since it received so many positive feedbacks from other viewers) Yes there was a strong plot, and there were a lot going on in the drama that would really make you stick to your screen, but I would say it weren’t into my tastes. There were angsty moments but it felt unnatural to me. Even the shifting of Ha Jin’s character – from the cheerful and enthusiastic person to suddenly being very painful and bothered – I didn’t connect well with it, eventhough I thought she’s done a pretty well job in those acts. The mystery about Ha Jin’s stalker didn’t seem very entertaining to me too. (I honestly didn’t guess at all of who the stalker is 😂) And even the stalker of Jeong Hoon’s ex-girlfriend didn’t appear to be very villainous to me. So strangely, because I always enjoy dramas with pyschopathic villains, but I never cared about it on this one. And then lastly I would like to comment about the friendship between Ha Jin and Seo Hyun (Jeong Hoon’s dead ex-girlfriend). On the flashbacks, we could really see how closed they were as friends. So I wasn’t very convinced that Jeong Hoon and Ha Jin were never acquainted to each other before. It just made less sense to me. 🤣 Since I am mostly a go-with-the-flow type of viewer, so it’s an another odd thing. Hahaha.
So other than those negatives I just mentioned, Find Me in Your Memory did a pretty good job as a drama, with plenty bits of things it showcased – romance, comedy and mystery. It just so happened that I required specific stuffs to be really into this kind of story. Nonetheless, it was a decent watch – with great chemistry between the leads too and so many bits of other things you could actually enjoy in an overall romance drama.

    Overall Rating: 6.5/10

It’s too bad this one didn’t totally win you over, but at least you liked it okay 🙂 Sometimes we just like dramas for very specific reasons and something off can impact our enjoyment even if it seems like everything is working. And sometimes we jut don’t know exactly why it didn’t click. So you’re totally normal in your experience. It just happens 🙂

It did offer a little bit of everything which was a nice combination. Great actors all around too. And it’s so funny you mention thinking of Park Yoo Chun when watching Kim Dong Wook! I had the same experience! They do have similar looks and mannerisms. I loved Moon Ga Young here. This was such a great role for her. Best of luck with your next crop of dramas! 🙂

I felt this story had a decent chance of being meaningful for dealing with grief and suppressed traumas but the contrast between the serious content and the contrived campy ingenue roles played by the too-young, too-glamor puss female lead, and the ‘supporting actors’ playing Sister/Manager and (ugh!) Mrs Park. I turned off the sound every time they hit the screen–their scenes were throw-away. It’s like the writer couldn’t decide on a story line, or succumbed to outside pressure to include the silly acting.
Too many tropes to depict any type of meaningful take-away for me. I kept hoping each episode would improve, till I finally gave up at ep 10–found myself getting too annoyed. A shame this romcom pretending to be dealing with serious issues never found its footing. Like Cotton Candy– full of artificial flavors and colors, dissolves in an instant, leaving behind only a mediocre bland sweetness.
