Eulachacha Waikiki 2 (or Welcome to Waikiki 2) follows the story of a group of friends (Lee Yi Kyung, Kim Sun Ho, Shin Hyun Soo, Ahn So Hee, Kim Ye Won, and Moon Ga Young) who run a guesthouse and all of the quirky adventures they have.
Eulachacha Waikiki is back with a second season to continue the crazy story of this group of people at the Waikiki Guesthouse. The first season was my favorite drama of 2018, so you better believe I was beyond excited to tune in for round 2!
Lee Yi Kyung was the only returning cast member from the original series as he reprised his role as Lee Jun Ki. I wish we could have got everyone back, but if I could only have one, I’m glad it is was him! Jun Ki is a struggling actor who convinced his buddies Woo Sik and Gi Bong to invest in the failing Waikiki Guesthouse.
Kim Sun Ho plays Cha Woo Sik who wants to catch a break as a singer. He’s constantly getting frustrated by Jun Ki’s crazy antics, and things get more complicated for him when his first love, Soo Yeon, moves into the guesthouse.
Shin Hyun Soo is the baseball player Gook Gi Bong who is stuck in the minor league. He’s not the brightest guy, but he is goodhearted with a fun nature. He runs into some trouble when Woo Sik’s sister, Yoo Ri, shows up.
Moon Ga Young plays Han Soo Yeon. She is the first love of all three of the boys and ends up living with them at the guesthouse after her family goes bankrupt. Despite being down on her luck, she keeps a good attitude and starts working to help contribute.
Ahn So Hee is Kim Jung Eun who has been living at the guesthouse for a while. She’s close with Jun Ki as they are acting buddies, though she recently stopped pursuing acting because she was unable to succeed.
Finally, Kim Ye Won plays Cha Yoo Ri. Yoo Ri is Woo Sik’s sister and has long been known for causing trouble for everyone. She causes some more chaos when she appears at the guesthouse.
Like the first season, Eulachacha Waikiki 2 is one of those beautiful rare dramas that actually makes me laugh out loud from start to finish. Right from the get go, the characters get themselves into completely ridiculous situations. That means lots of fun for us!
Of course, I missed the old cast, but because of my fondness for this writer (thank you for creating some of my favorite dramas ever!), I was very confident that we would get another solid bunch of quirky people at the guesthouse. Indeed, that’s what we got, and it was very easy to fall for the new cast.
I was also very pleased that season 2 felt exactly like season 1. With the same PD at the helm, the look and tone was exactly the same. Even some of the background music and sounds were reused in this season.
But most importantly, Eulachacha Waikiki 2 was still a ton of fun with a hefty dose of heartwarming goodness. The comedy style is completely over-the-top and focuses a lot on the characters getting into crazy trouble all of the time. Much of it is very situational with most of the plot just coming from the daily adventures of the group. And they sure do get into some wild situations!
We have such unique and quirky characters that become quite endearing as the drama progresses. In the midst of all the stupidity, they each have their own little personal journeys to go on. Be prepared to be laughing away and then suddenly be hit with such a heartwarming moment.
We even get romantic pairings that serve as cute side plots. The characters get paired off into three couples which gives us not only lots of fun but also plenty of sweet moments as their relationships grow. It was nice to have all the little love lines going on.
Several of the gags in Euluchacha Waikiki 2 were definitely recycled from the first season, but they would add a new spin to them so that they felt fresh. Honestly, they were still just as funny. Luckily, there was plenty of fresh material throughout the drama too which allowed for a lot of fun surprises in terms of the comedy.
I do think there was more comedy in season 1, and it was a bit more extreme, while season 2 added a few more dramatic moments. I would still label them both strictly as comedies though. I would recommend watching season 1 first if possible, but season 2 has little do with it in terms of plot, so it can be watched on its own.
And I just have to give another mention to Lee Yi Kyung. His comedic abilities are beyond amazing, and he makes me laugh like no other. Every face he makes is gold as well as his hilarious laughter. I was grinning like crazy every time he was on screen. He’s just that amazing!
While I did like season 1 of Eulachacha Waikiki a tad better, Eulachacha Waikiki 2 is really just as good. I laughed out loud every single episode and just loved seeing what absolutely crazy situations the characters would get themselves into. This group was a whole lot of fun.
I said after season 1 that this was one of the rare shows where I would love to see a season 2, and I got lucky and got just that! And you know what, if a season 3 ever comes around, you better believe I will be there ready and waiting for all of the fun!
My Rating: 9/10

Crazy, slapsticky OTT ain’t my thing at all, so I gave both this and S1 a pretty wide berth. 😁 OTT humor in moderation is ok but it has to be handled ‘just so’ in order to pass the muster for me. It’s a good thing I know what works for me and what doesn’t. 🙂

Yeah, I remember you not caring for the first season. Honestly, I’m not usually a big fan of slapstick either, but somehow the complete riduculousness and over the top style of this show made it work for me. So far this particular writer is the only one to consistently make me laugh, so I’m glad it somehow clicks, hehe 🙂

I too was a part of the excited people when season 2 was announced (i know you knew that Kay 🤭) and it didn’t fail to give me a decent amount of laughter and joy. I would be in for a third season 😉

Yep, we were both super excited, and thankfully, it worked out great! Lots of fun and laughter for sure. I know Lee Yi Kyung said in an interview he would consider coming back for a third season, and I would be all in for that too! 🙂

Season 3! Season 3! Season 3! 🙂 🙂 🙂
New cast recommendation:
Lee Yi Kyung (for the third time), Hwang Chan Sung, Pyo Ye Jin, Kim Min Seok, and help me think of another two female leads. Hehe
Let’s go for S3!!!

I’ll join in the chant: Season 3! Season 3! We need it to happen! hehe 🙂 Lee Yi Kyung for sure, and you’ve picked a good set of actors too. Hmm, I’d have to think on who else to join them though. But whoever it is, I want it to happen! 😉

I also liked Season 2, mostly because it didn’t rely on so much bathroom humor like the previous show. The comedy was still pretty slapstick, but more mature than the first season. If Joon Gi will be back, I’d be down for season 3 as well. He is the glue that holds this show together.
I live for the segments where Joon Gi has to be the bit-part actor and do crazy stuff. I sincerely believe that some of those segments are ripped from Real Life situations!

Yay that you liked it too! 🙂 It did definitely tone down the bathroom humor this season, which is also something I appreciate. I agree, the comedy was less extreme too, but still very funny.
Similar to you, I also live for Lee Yi Kyung’s parts in the show, any of it really, but particularly when he’s being an actor and all he has to go through. He just makes me laugh like no one else. I’d be over the moon if he would return for a third season! 🙂

I just finished Waikiki Season 1. I love this kdrama so much! There’s never a dull moment in this kdrama really. They could’ve kept this season going and I wouldn’t mind at all.
