Eulachacha Waikiki (also known as Welcome to Waikiki or Laughter in Waikiki) is a comedy about three men that run a guesthouse who get involved with a single mother (Jung In Sun) and her baby. Dong Goo (Kim Jung Hyun) is a cynical man who dreams of being a movie director, Joon Ki (Lee Yi Kyung) is an actor who finds himself stuck in minor roles, and Doo Shik (Son Seung Won) is a struggling script writer.

If you’re looking for a drama that is light, fun, and packed with hilarious comedy, Eulachacha Waikiki is the answer! It’s the perfect break from all of those heavier dramas. But even in the midst of the fun, there is plenty of that heartwarming goodness to give you all the feels.

Kim Jung Hyun is Kang Dong Goo, a cynical man who dreams of being a movie director. I loved how he would go from being a very straight forward almost hum drum kind of guy with a deadpan expression to being so animated with such a big cheesy grin. He ended up being such a fun character.

Lee Yi Kyung plays Lee Joon Ki, an actor who finds himself stuck in minor roles. And Lee Yi Kyung completely stole the show for me! This man is so talented, and I just continue to be amazed by him.

I’ve been loving him more and more with each passing role I see him in, but this drama was absolutely perfect for showcasing his amazing comedic abilities. He is just so spot on and full of charisma that I just couldn’t take my eyes off of him when he was on screen. He is just so endearingly funny, and he made me smile and laugh so much. Excellent job Lee Yi Kyung!

Son Seung Won is Bong Doo Shik, a script writer having a difficult time. He’s a sweet guy who is a bit timid. His more reserved personality definitely made for some fun throughout the drama when he gets put in some very out of character scenarios.

We then have Jung In Sun as Han Yoon Ah. She’s a single mother struggling to get by and ends up staying at the guest house. She’s nice and soft spoken, but she is quite a quirky character that tends to cause accidents and makes things difficult for those around her.

Go Won Hee is Dong Goo’s sister Kang Seo Jin. She’s loud and outspoken and won’t put up with any nonsense from the boys. This allows for some very fun bickering between her and them.

Then there is Dong Goo’s high maintenance ex-girlfriend Min Soo Ah (Lee Joo Woo). She lands at the guesthouse during difficult times which gives her a second chance and a new perspective on life.

And not to leave out one of the most adorable babies ever, we have Yoon Ah’s daughter Sol. She’s all kinds of cute and just brightens up each and every scene she is in. Seriously, she is too adorable!

Eulachacha Waikiki is such a feel good drama. It is packed with comedy yet is also full of heartwarming and meaningful moments thanks to its wonderfully quirky and endearing characters.

Now this is a very over the top and crazy in your face sort of comedy style. Don’t take things too seriously with this one. It’s laugh out loud funny and leaves you completely flabbergasted by what you just saw. The characters get into some completely ridiculous situations. And this is one of those cases where the more ridiculous the scenario the better!

Although I chuckle a lot during dramas, there are very few that I consider true comedies that make me laugh out loud from start to finish. Eulachacha Waikiki has joined the ranks of those precious few dramas that genuinely make me laugh (for those who are curious, the others Modern Farmer, Shopping King Louie, and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho). Also, if you enjoy this kind of comedy combined with quirky and lovable characters, definitely go check out another drama from this writer, Modern Farmer, because it is just as fantastic!

The drama is then able to immediately flip from extreme comedy to such tender moments where you really feel for the characters. This isn’t a show with a big plot, but it has some nice little character and relationship journeys to enjoy.

This show brought so many smiles to my face and just made for such a fun time.  I grew so attached to the Waikiki Guesthouse family. This is the kind of show that I would absolutely love to get a season 2. I could watch these characters get into all kinds of crazy trouble again and again. And I would continue to enjoy every single minute of it!

My Rating: 10/10

Oh yeah! After reading your post, I’m convinced to watched this! I will surely watch this after Lee Kwang Soo’s drama “Live” 🙂 As always, great review Kay!

Yes! Definitely gonna watch this! I knew from the title that this was going to be good. Your review confirms it. And I have a feeling I will love the female lead. 🙂

Eulachacha Waikiki is so entertaining and hilarious (as long you like this comedy style that is). And I loved the female lead. She is so sweet! Of course, I loved every character as they are each quirky and fun in their own way. I really hope you enjoy it too 🙂

Looking at the 10/10 you gave Waikiki, it sure is your kind of drama. ☺

It’s great when a show hits the spot perfectly, as that doesn’t happen very often. Not for me anyway. Korean brand of slapsticky OTT doesn’t work for me, as you’ve probably noted . 😉 When it comes to humour, I’m more in the line with Buam Dong Revenge Club.

It most definitely was my kind of drama! And yes, it really is special when that drama comes along that just hits your sweet spot. Even though I love many dramas and even like most of the ones I watch, I don’t give out a lot of 10’s, so this one was one of those special ones for me. Hopefully, you come across one of those special gems soon too 🙂

Completely agree with your review 10/10!! I’m almost finished watching the series and wishing for it not to be over!! I’ve already seen the similar ones you recommended above but can you recommend some more? I really need light and silly to balance the heavier stuff.

I know, I’m so sad it’s over! It was just too much fun! Let’s see, as far as similar recs a couple come to mind. Drinking Solo is a quirky slice of life that has an endearing ensemble cast with some very silly comedy. Not quite at Waikiki level, but still a lot of fun.

There’s also the web drama Sound of Your Heart starring Lee Kwang Soo. No real plot with that one. Just super silly comedy. Surplus Princess is another one that comes to mind with a fun cast and crazy comedy. A little warning on that one though. It got reduced from 16 to 10 eps while airing, and it only had like a week to prepare so the ending is very rushed. See if any of those appeal to you 🙂

Eulachacha Waikiki was certainly special though. I really wish there were more comedies like it!

Thanks for the recs! I’ve added to my list. Sounds like Surplus Princess might be one of those I would love while the intended audience didn’t. Seems to be a lot of those 🙂

There really are a lot of those. Surplus Princess was very well received internationally, so it was really disappointing that it didn’t do well domestically and suffered a cut. But it’s still very cute and funny, and I’m glad we at least got the 10 episodes 🙂

Yehey! I’m so glad that we agreed on each other on this one. Eulachacha Waikiki (10/10) and the whole Waikiki family are just so special for me in my entire KDrama journey. Will look forward for more extremely funny dramas with less conflicts yet many heartwarming moments. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Woohoo! I’m glad we agree too 🙂 I completely get it as the Waikiki family has a special place in my heart too. The drama easily deserves a 10, and I also really hope for more dramas like this in the future that know how to really pull out the comedy yet still deliver some wonderful emotions 🙂

Seriously, Eulachacha Waikiki was one of the best dramas I have ever watched. Black was very special, though these two have nothing in similar.
And I have never laughed so often and so hard while watching something. Honestly, it was the first comedy drama I have ever watched. I tried watching Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Monthy Python :D, but none of them were really cup of my tea. Eulachacha Waikiki was just another dimension. So was Black. Anyways, watch them if you haven’t, folks!

Agree, Eulachacha Waikiki is such a special drama! Glad to hear you had such great experience with it too 🙂 I watch a lot of comedies, but Waikiki just hits that sweet spot and is easily one of the funniest dramas I have ever seen. Just wonderful all around 🙂 I still need to check out Black after all the positive reviews. Just waiting to be in the right mood for it, hehe

This is the perfect summer drama! So light and fluffy, and full of heart too! It gave me my Kim Jung Hyun fix and introduced me to the comic talents of Lee Yi Kyung (I had seen him only once before, in a dramatic role, and he delivered there too). The rest of the cast was pitch perfect too. I was impressed by the actress playing the model ex-girlfriend. I liked how there was character growth and change without abandoning the light-hearted tone.
The show did address the difficulties young people face while pursuing their dreams, as well as the absurd demands of the entertainment industry.
A true breath of fresh air!

I wholeheartedly agree! So much fun and perfect for summer 🙂 I loved the sheer silliness of this one.

And yes, this is a case where the entire ensemble cast was just perfect. Lee Yi Kyung is one of my favorite comedic actors, and he just shines here (love him being dramatic too).

This drama is my exact kind of comedy, and how I wish there were more like it that were just absurd, silly, full of fun, and has a nice helping of heart 🙂
