The Package is about a group of very different people who embark on a guided tour in France. It’s a heartwarming drama of people connecting and building relationships as they deal with life, love, and unexpected events.

The Package is one of those laid back and contemplative sort of dramas. It moves along at a leisurely pace as we join a tour group on their journey in France. It’s a very pleasant adventure as we join these travelers on a journey of exploration, self-discovery, and healing.

Lee Yeon Hee plays our tour guide So So. She’s a bright woman who left home years ago for France. She’s wonderful at her job because of her pleasant personality and knowing how to relate to the many people she encounters. Although one traveler catches her a bit off guard.

That would be Ma Roo played by Jung Yong Hwa. He ends up traveling alone to France after some problems back home with his job and his girlfriend. This is absolutely my favorite character of Jung Yong Hwa’s! I loved him so much! He’s such as awkward but incredibly sweet guy. He has this immense curiousity that gets him into trouble quite frequently. He was so funny and adorable, and I enjoyed him so much.

We then have three other pairings on the tour. First, we have Gyung Jae (Choi Woo Shik) and So Ran (Ha Shi Eun). This long time boyfriend and girlfriend go through a lot of ups and downs as they work through some of their relationship issues. They were a fun couple for sure. And I always especially love Choi Woo Shik!

Then there’s Yeon Sung (Ryu Seung Soo) and Na Hyun (Park Yoo Na). This pair causes a lot of speculation among the other travelers as to the nature of their relationship. This was an interesting duo that was fun getting to know. There’s definitely more to them than meets the eye.

And finally we have our long time married couple Gab Soo (Jung Gyoo Soo) and Book Ja (Lee Ji Hyun). He’s a grumpy man who loves to complain about everything while she’s sweet as can be and is always running interference for his outbursts. This couple took some getting used to, but they really grew on me, and I thoroughly enjoyed their story.

What a moving drama this was! I actually really felt like I was part of this tour group in France. We visited attractions, had meals, and spent time traveling together. We also had a lot of little mini history lessons to learn about the sites.

And it t makes excellent use of the gorgeous French scenery. There’s plenty of time to just kick back and enjoy the multitude of beautiful sites displayed through the fantastic cinematography.

The drama employs a main overarching story with the focus on our main couple of Ma Roo and So So while having sub stories with the other travelers. Then each episode itself took on a more episodic pattern as it would focus on one of our travelers and give us a chance to get to know them more in depth and learn about their lives and struggles. But rather than feeling episodic, each of these stories built upon each other as they progressed to deliver a beautifully woven together narrative.

It’s a very character focused drama as we simply get to know them on a personal level and see their life and relationship struggles. I thought the characters were very well developed being both nuanced and flawed. They felt like real people.

In the beginning of the drama, both the audience and the travelers develop certain impressions of each other. But this changes through out the drama as we dig deeper and get to know them. I definitely found myself more invested in the drama as it went along.

I began to feel a connection with the characters and empathized with their struggles. These are not perfect people and sometimes they did annoying and disappointing things, but the key was understanding their intentions and realizing they were good people and there is more to someone than what you see on the surface.

The drama had plenty of lighthearted moments to balance out the serious. This was a very quirky and interesting group! But I definitely shed some tears as I watched them struggle with life and love. I really enjoyed these people so much!

The Package is very slice of life in many ways. There aren’t any grand stories or crazy over the top scenarios. It’s not a genre that I usually gravitate towards, but I usually find myself very comfortable with these sort of stories. And this drama made me feel very comfortable while also touching my heart on a deep level.

Its unique setting freshens things up a bit while it delivers a rich character driven story that intertwined everything quite beautifully. It’s also the perfect drama for a pleasant and contemplative experience as you enjoy the beauty of France and go on a moving journey of exploration and love.

My Rating: 8/10

This really was such a lovely little drama about commoners on a journey to France and ultimately into themselves. As you said, they all felt like real people with their ‘average people’ sized problems and issues. So refreshing to have a drama without geniuses, uber rich and unnecessary dramatics. 🙂

It really was lovely. And I love it when regular people and their average problems really connects with me. As someone who usually likes a lot of drama and craziness, it just touches my heart when a script and characters like this draws me in. It’s hard to win me over in genres like this, but The Package completely did 🙂

I loved this show! My favorite role of Jung Yong Hwa was in The Musketeers. Hated the way that was left with a season two cliff hanger that will never be made.

    Love your blog!!

    Hwaiting!!!

I actually have grown to like slice of life animes a lot these past few months. Haven’t really watched a slice of live Korean drama yet, but this one sounds like a good one to start with. I had of course seen a few trailers for it through your blog and other posts, and the French scenery also gives it a bit of a unique look. Which is cool. Probably get to this one somewhere next year 😊😊 As always great review, glad you enjoyed it so much 😀

I can be really hit or miss with slice of life in general. I prefer crazy, dramatic, and fantasy type stories. So slice of life frequently ends up too bland. But when they really nail the characters and make their stories of growth rewarding and heartwarming, they totally win me over. That was definitely the case with The Package. Hopefully, you get to check it out sometime next year 🙂

Everything was perfect, the scenery, the history of each tourist spot, the story of each couple and the story of the tour guide So So, the scene where her mother was nagging her brother because he didn’t bring her back to Korea made me cry a bucket. I’m disappointed with your rating, I thought this would be 10/10, lol, but you have your reasons.

Haha, well don’t worry. Just know that I absolutely love a drama even when I give it an 8 🙂 And that most definitely includes The Package! I agree, the characters, their stories, the scenery, the history, everything was so wonderful. It’s definitely an underrated drama that I wish more people would check out 🙂

This drama was so amazing. People say the main actors aren’t great at acting but the strong character development across all the characters was soooo good + all the twists. And the OST is great as well!
