Train to Busan Korean Movie - Gong Yoo

Train to Busan tells the story of a father and daughter who become trapped on a train to Busan during a massive zombie outbreak. They must fight for their lives with the help of other passengers they meet on the train.

I’ve been really excited to watch Train to Busan after hearing so much praise for all aspects of the movie. I finally got a chance to take it in, and like everyone has said, it is a really great movie!

I’m not really a fan of zombie movies, but I’ve seen several of them over the years. Train to Busan easily fits within the standard zombie genre, but I felt it took it to a different level by really making the characters come alive and delivering an emotional poignancy not typically seen in movies of this genre.

At the heart of the movie is a father and his daughter trying to survive. Gong Yoo was excellent in the film and delivered a wide range of emotions. I easily connected with his character and felt the fear, protectiveness, and determination he was experiencing while trying to get him and his daughter to safety.

His daughter was played by a very talented little girl named Kim Soo An.  She wonderfully portrayed the strained yet loving relationship with her father and handled all of the emotional scenes extremely well.

The supporting characters were all wonderful and included talented actors like Ma Dong Suk, Choi Woo Shik, Jung Yu Mi, So Hee, and Kim Eui Sung

Train to Busan is a very high quality film with a fast pace that kept me completely engaged. The cinematography is also wonderful with excellent special effects and well choreographed action scenes. There are some pretty impressive scenes that depict hoards of zombies in pursuit of the passengers.

The movie also has plenty of suspenseful moments throughout it with our group of survivors constantly running into a new zombie threat. The action was intense while being nicely enhanced by those small moments that really brought the characters to life and made me care for them.

I also really appreciated that Train to Busan wasn’t gory at all. There is definitely plenty of blood and typical zombie violence, but really no gore.

Overall, Train to Busan was an excellent movie on many levels. With a talented cast, action, suspense, and heart, it made for a thrilling and moving ride. I’m glad I finally got to check out this wonderful film and highly recommend it.

My Rating: 9/10
