Lawless Lawyer Korean Drama - Lee Joon Gi, Seo Ye Ji, Choi Min Soo, Lee Hye Young

The tvN drama Lawless Lawyer starring Lee Joon Gi (Criminal Minds) and Seo Ye Ji (Save Me) premiered this past weekend to great numbers. It brought in 5.3% for its first episode on Saturday and then rose to 6.0% for it’s second episode on Sunday. That’s definitely a fantastic start for the drama, and hopefully, it will see more success throughout it’s run!

Lawless Lawyer is a legal action thriller about a gangster (Lee Joon Gi) turned lawyer who doesn’t mind using his fists or doing whatever is necessary to bring justice as he works to avenge his mother. It comes from the writer of Remember: War of the Son and the PD of The Liar and His Lover and Time Between Dog and Wolf.

Lawless Lawyer airs Saturday and Sunday on tvN.

As per usual, I’m going against the flow as ep 1 didn’t impress me much. 🙂 I mean, it was more or less like every other drama with a similar premise. Crime/leagal shows are a dime in a dozen these days, so they’ll really need something that “pops” to grab my interest. I am going to watch the 2nd epi too, but it’s very likely that’ll be it for me.

You are a tough one to impress though, hehe 😉 I haven’t watched it yet as I will wait for some eps to build up. But I have the same thoughts with crime/legal dramas in general. There are so many of them, and it’s hard to stand out from the pack and do something fresh. If I’m lucky, I usually just find crime shows good anyways, but it’s hard for them to be great for me. A lot of people probably wouldn’t agree with me on this, but since I absolutely loved Remember, I’m hoping Lawless Lawyer veers more towards being a legal melodrama like that. But we shall see 🙂

Hi Kaye, I do not know where to post this so I’ll just post this here. LOL.
I am having a really hard time looking for a drama to watch. My last four dramas are the following (by order of viewing; the last being the latest):
    – Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo
    – High School King of Savvy (Sorry, dropped this because I felt that the more he kept up with his lie that kept getting bigger and bigger, the more unfair it was to everyone around him. I also did not like the fact that he did not seem as guilty as he should. That’s just me.)
    – Angel Eyes (Melodrama, so a bit slow. But I liked it.)
    – King Loves/King In Love

As you can see from the list, those are heavy/slow dramas. So now, I really need something that is light and happy. Something bordering on cliche but special. That was what I though King Loves would be. But we know it wasn’t HAHAHA. Also if possible, something not set in the past. I have watched too much sageuks. I want to go back to the real world for now. HAHA.

I figured that Strong Woman Do Bong Soon was the best option available but then you posted “Grrr” about the plot so…. Now I do not know. Something like Shopping King? It is the type of drama I really need right now. Or something like Pinnochio/Healer/City Hunter will also do. I think I have watched most of the dramas I would be interested in.

One other option I have is to re-watch While You Were Sleeping. I dropped it before, though it was because of real-life reasons and not so much about the drama. The other being to watch Eulachacha Wakiki. But then it is a gamble as you said due to its type of humor. I’m hoping for something certain. HAHAHA.

Here is just fine 🙂 Yep, it definitely sounds like you could use some lighter dramas to counter the heavier stuff. I understand the frustration in finding that drama that is a bit special. I’m like you in that I’ve watched so many of the popular ones that have that special something. Sadly, since you’ve seen so many of those, I think a lot of my recs get more into the it could go either way category. There are plenty that I love and would definitely recommend, but they may not have that truly special quality.

For something completely opposite of what you have watched, Waikiki is perfect. Yes, it is a risk because of the humor. But I would say just watch 3 episodes and you will have a pretty solid grasp of the comedy style, if you enjoy the quirky characters, and where the drama is heading. It doesn’t change drastically throughout the drama, but the characters do become more endearing as you go and the relationships/romance does develop more. It’s not at all like dramas such as Pinocchio and City Hunter though. Pure light and fun and mostly for a good time.

Not sure if this would interest you, but I recently watched an incredibly sweet drama called Longing Heart. Nothing earth shattering, but it’s a very lovely little romance that is mostly light and cute yet still has a good story. I have a full review for it if you want more details as well as a few notes on the time travel aspect.

Did you ever try Go Back Couple? I don’t believe you’ve mentioned if you went ahead and tried it. Another possibility might be Ho Goo’s Love if you haven’t seen it. Again, nothing earth shattering, but I sure loved it 🙂

Hi Kaye. It really is getting harder to find amazing dramas. HAHAHA.

I’ll check the reviews of your recommended dramas and decide which one to watch. They all seem very interesting.

        Thnks Kaye. 🙂

Yep, the struggle is real to find those drama gems. I really hope at least one or two of the recs are enjoyable for you 🙂

I still like the crime dramas but they do seem very cookie cutter. The plot for Lawless could easily be used for another drama. I’m curious about it now that it’s doing well though. As far as finding a gem, I just started Come and Hug Me (the opposite of a light drama), but it’s so good.

Agree, crime dramas are frequently very cookie cutter. I actually can’t stand procedural dramas of any kind (crime, legal, medical). But I love crime dramas that are heavily serialized with a good story and lots of tension. I do like the plot for Lawless Lawyer, but my main draw is Lee Joon Gi who is my favorite actor. And I also really liked the previous drama from this writer, so I’m hopeful 🙂

I’ve been hearing good things about Come Here and Hug Me. I wasn’t sure about it until I saw the trailers, and I thought they were really intriguing. Glad to hear you’re enjoying it, and I most definitely have it on my watch list 🙂
